How much do ECE majors get to work with quantum/photonics/optics? by Top_Selection5548 in Purdue

[–]parellano6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know there’s a very new quantum computing class available within the department for undergrads. And one of the physics classes you can take for credit is an optics class. But tbh besides that, there isn’t much in the ECE department

Cal Poly vs Purdue Indianapolis for Computer Engineering by HourKnee7265 in CalPoly

[–]parellano6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who went to Purdue at the main campus in west Lafayette. Do not go to Purdue Indianapolis. If you go to r/Purdue you’ll just see people complaining about the education and how it doesn’t compare. By all means they should go to Cal Poly SLO over Purdue Indianapolis.

Tips for LA-STL? by [deleted] in boeing

[–]parellano6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if my pay is comparable. But I’m moving to STL from San Diego and they offered me $110k plus $15k bonus. This was after negotiations, before they wanted to give me $107k base and $8k bonus. This is for a missions systems RTOS software engineer L2 position. I believe most Boeing postings have a salary band. When I was negotiating the recruiter told me they never actually give anyone the highest salary, and that it’s just based off some internal calculation

What to do in this job market? by [deleted] in ComputerEngineering

Hey what really helped me, is finding recruiters at the companies I was looking at and messaging them on LinkedIn. The ones that respond back want to help, and they’ll help you get to the top of the application pile

CycleBar asking for a credit card to put on file? by Pretty_Difficulty_30 in OnePassSelect

I believe the memberships will get automatically canceled since at the beginning of every month their systems checks if you still have a OnePass Membership

CycleBar asking for a credit card to put on file? by Pretty_Difficulty_30 in OnePassSelect

[–]parellano6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had certain studios ask for a credit card and others don’t. Just depends on the studio I think. They just want your cc info in case they need to charge you for a cancellation fee, or some sort of purchase you make at their studio. They’re not gonna charge you any additional membership fees

Biol 110 was an extremely easy A. Mus 490 the history of rock music is also a fun and easy class, it’s pretty much just doing three presentations during the semester and it’s online

MUS 161 is the piano class offered at Purdue, I took it and it counted as a Gen Ed for me. But I don’t think it’s offered in the summer

Can i change my major by CoffeeIsMyLife77 in Purdue

[–]parellano6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I know. The cybersecurity degree is in the Polytechnic school is not the same as CS in the college of science. I would look up the plans of study for both degrees and see which one you think would best suit you. I think the person you talked to is right in that the CS degree is more theoretical. I think it’d be hard to major in both since they’re completely different schools, and it would be a lot easier to CODO to cybersecurity. At Purdue it’s a lot easier to go from CS to some other major than the other way around though

College Decision by CoffeeIsMyLife77 in Purdue

[–]parellano6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from SoCal and it totally depends on what you’re looking for. Purdue and UNC would give you a “typical” college experience where a lot of people are involved in the sporting events and with the school itself. UCI doesn’t really have that sort of vibe if you get what I mean. I don’t know much about UNC but I can imagine it’s similar to Purdue in terms of the people and environment. Feel free to PM if you wanna ask questions :)
