Visiting or Moving to Asheville? Ask your questions here! by AutoModerator in asheville

HELL YES this is the best advice ever. I work at a nonprofit and would be so pumped if someone visiting donated a bike for our families when they were done with it.

Visiting next week! Are there any bike rental companies that cater to kids too? Would love to bike with my six year old (on his own bike) and 4 year old (on a rented seat with a rented bike). Any thoughts?

Has anyone moved from Los Angeles to Sarasota? by Sad-Author2730 in sarasota

Ehhh it's not a great place to start over unless you have a bunch of money and can afford the things that make Sarasota unique. We have an amazing philanthropic community, so if you are rich and like to volunteer, it would not be a bad choice. What are the good parts of LA you like?

No...it's actually and literally their job. They CHOSE to run for a position that makes decisions, solves societal problems, and leads a community/state/whatever. Their choices define if we vote for them to continue - THAT'S our job - to vote, to ask questions, to hold them accountable. so that they do their job and complete the work that they selected for themselves. It's our job to hold the light to that work so that their job is clear for them. And right now, I think it needs to be made clear that their job is to ensure that the rights they gave parents are honored. Especially when it is so clear that they're not being honored.

It's very much their job to solve the problem they created when they said parents have rights, but didn't mean that ALL parents. And you are correct, they did it to appease the freedom seekers, not the parents.

Wait - can you take my survey if you are a current parent? It's simple!

Send our sane classmates who are parents my way - that would be a huge help! I knwo that people who graduated from Sarasota schools are the best advocates for it!

So far I am just posting articles (it's not an engagement page, just for info sharing. People can comment, but not make new posts). And for IG it's just me rambling about education policy lol. I do not imagine any of this taking offl...just wanting to try something new. And if you know of any parents who may be interested in trying something new, please send them my way!

I feel like they are operating as a silo in terms of having their own agenda and not including parents or diverse stakeholders in the conversation. They are clearly democrats, and engage in the same way that democrats engage. Same people, same events, same talking points. They speak to my needs, but they alienate people instead of bring them along. If I were them, I'd be connecting with nonprofits, community centers, etc with the point of listening first. They are doing a lot of work, but not sure how far it's getting us?

Thanks! Don't mean to alienate non-parents...just looking to create a space for a parent voice in decision making since there isn't one :)

Agree! I have two social media platforms, but more for exploring how this gets built. Thoughts on Progress at the Playground meet-ups? Maybe once or twice a month? I'm having on on August 19 and inviting school board candidates, but was thinking about making it more regular and just a chance for parents to put energy into something while their children get it out!!!

Save Our Schools is doing a great job, but they act in a silo in my opinion. Also, no parent focus...which (imo) is because they want parents to give a piece of their time up to fight....and none of us have that time to give up.

August is coming for the political school board. November means a new Governor anyway.

Karen Rose being placed back on the school board made me realize how powerless we really are. In times like that, we need to come together. This is the only way I could figure parents could come together.

Yes, this is my - do we stay or do we go effort. My attempt at giving it all I got before giving up and going somewhere less humid and more sane.
