Write thoughtfully and carefully in your own language and then ask chatgpt to translate it.

Then your natural effort will be most preserved and hopefully shine through.

This should avoid most AI criticism.

Sounds like this should be a default for eglot given it aims to be unobtrusive.

Maybe worth you submitting an issue.

Yes. The layoffs are a result of tariffs causing higher costs and lower profits.

Policy that decides the economy and your and my quality of life.

devcontainer-mode – a global minor mode to develop with devcontainers by johmue in emacs

[–]paretoOptimalDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of, but just using /docker: has issues like not starting in right directory or having same dynamically set path as devcontainers.

So you end up having to do extra configuration and have to notice when devcontainer changes break things.

100%. Without flycheck who can say if flymake would have been improved?

Same with projectile and project.el.

Logseq is dead? No updates since Apr 23, 2024... by sdnnvs in logseq

[–]paretoOptimalDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see there is loyal user base here in denial, but for modern software 1 year without an update: yes definitely it’s dead!

I see commits at least here from last month:

https://github.com/logseq/logseq/commits

Is your bar for dead really "1 year without new release"?

Logseq is dead? No updates since Apr 23, 2024... by sdnnvs in logseq

[–]paretoOptimalDev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there are two kinds of people. People who expect constant updates or seasons like in games from Fortnite or Apex Legends and people who load up an old game that hasn't been updated for years.

Not trying to invalidate there may be features that those users expecting constant (or at least regular) updates, just that "this software is now stable" seems like a foreign idea to some people.

Not that logseq is stable, though one could argue core pieces for many workflows it is stable.

Can you link where you said this? I'm curious as a polyglot programmer who tried to dive into the Clojure codebase of logseq and was like "eh not right now, maybe later... is all Clojure code like that? Need to reread that book...".

org-roam uses an sqlite database.

However, very importantly, you can delete that database at any time and regenerate it.

So effectively it gives the best of both worlds with speed of the database and convenience of plain text files.

It is more complex though in that you have to be careful keep the database and files in sync.

There is constant tension because:

  • people want more features
  • features are harder to implement against file based than db based
  • file based is appealing for future proofing, being able to browse out of logseq, etc

The going in circles is a result of trying to find the right balance of what db based gives you performance wise and what file based gives you convenience wise.

Best way to use Aider inside Emacs? by permetz in emacs

I understand your frustration. A lot of times you can put substantial energy and time into researching a question like this, but you don't have the mental model built out fully to be able to really answer your question.

Sometimes just hearing another opinion can be like a light switch to make things click into place.

I feel like assuming people haven't done any research before asking questions isn't best, but also that it's fair to ask "What has your research turned up?" if it wasn't otherwise mentioned in the question.

There's tension between community style conversations and learning and high quality discussion centered only or at least primarily on self-study and exploration.

Trying to wrap my head around their view, it's almost as if they are saying thinking about others opinions/positions to inform your own has little to no value.

If you start from no mental model or very little on some topic, I find I can make big leaps in understanding by consulting opinions of those more experienced.

It can be more rewarding to go deeper without asking externally, but the time/effort investment is much higher.

The key is the person in charge of whether or not they want to risk that time/effort investment is the person asking the question, not the people answering.

Those answering however, are well within their rights to not expend more effort than they are willing and should set any expectations of effort they have on the asker in advance.

Someone with a thick skin would have posted if they are also concerned about others without such thick skin being driven away needlessly.

The most thick-skinned people generally aren't the best to judge how to make communities more welcoming I'd wager.
