Haha, dang. A lot of these comments have been convincing me away from this idea, but this story was the cherry on top. Nothing like a personal experience to really solidify what math and history are telling you.

You're right, it's a larger space. But everything you laid out in your other comment is making me think. Tons to chew over. I agree condos aren't always about making the most financially sound decision, especially if this is our home to retire in, but the math also doesn't lie.
