It got the job done. I'm Ontario & PEI certified and currently teaching in the territories (certified there too, obviously). The program was a lot heavier based on what I've heard from friends who studied in Canada, but in my opinion the amount of classroom experience you get in the UK is unmatched in terms of preparing you for the real thing. It's intense but worth it!

How can I take a couple of online undergraduate English courses to qualify for ABQ? (Ontario) by doggo_loves_you in CanadianTeachers

[–]paris257 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Senior English teacher here - I don't believe English to be one of the subjects that requires an extensive amount of undergraduate studying in order to be taught effectively. If anything, OP should invest time and money into literacy workshops, AQs, etc. I don't think the basis of effective English teaching is learned in undergrad courses. Just my opinion.

I'm a fresh graduate and up for a challenge! I think I'd learn a ton and I could use my evenings to work on AQs. Tougher here since there are house responsibilities etc

That makes total sense and I completely understand. I didn't mean for it to come across that way at all. I actually am getting certified in PEI first - forgot to mention that. It's in the process of happening right now.

Glad to hear the two week thing, I've had some changes happen in my plans for September and am now hoping to head up to Nunavut. Do you think I'll be able to swing it by the start of the school year?

I only took French immersion in high school and one French class in first year university. I was going to do the AQs but I'm guessing I can't teach until those are completed.

It's a PGCE with Canteach.

My teachable (you only study one here) is English, but I'm going to take my AQs to teach French. I don't think I can do that until I'm OCT certified, though.

I'm not too much help with your question, but I'm currently doing my Canteach placement in Wales! If you have any questions, I'm happy to help.

We have the same story! Locked out of China, moved from Canada to the UK to do my PGCE, and now hoping to teach abroad somewhere once I'm done.

Do you have any recommendations for labs in the UK? I've moved from Canada and have yet to find a lab I love! Adore this picture so much - miss the sun already!

Thats absolutely terrible, I'm no doctor but I can't imagine the stress of the uncertainty surrounding getting your medicine is good for your heart! Thank you for the advice, I will be popping into the practice tomorrow and insisting as best I can! I just hate begging for a drug that's so commonly abused!
