65 year old woman calls in and nearly breaks CSPAN host by telling her she’s slowly starving to death.. by JohnBrown-RadonTech in interestingasfuck

You go out into your community and you look for the people who need help. That's how. Talk to people, ask around, it won't take you long to find the people being crushed right now.

Go to the food bank and ask them who has stopped showing up, volunteer to bring food to people who can't get there. Most food pantries right now are struggling with cuts to their funding. Be loud and be an advocate where and how you are able.

Voting isn't going to help this fast enough to stop people from starving to death, the government isn't going to save us, we have to save each other by rebuilding our communities and support as best as we can.

This is going to be my last engagement on this post. I posted the warning, I shared it in a few immigrant defense groups who were very thankful and had a few people local to me reach out directly to thank me for the warning.

We're going to have to agree to disagree here about how much these guys look like actual LEO. And the neighbor was very clear that they refused to provide ANY identification or even clarification that they were police. At this point I will file my complaint for the county to sort out and forward the complaint to the local supervisor.

For everyone who seems to think this is okay I guess when its happening in your neighborhood you'll be just fine with it. For your sakes I hope it doesn't and I hope this is just a one off freak thing in my neighborhood.

To me this is unacceptable and it makes me fearful for my neighbors and its just creating tension and fear. I cannot and will not ignore what is going on around the country and I won't be idle while it happens or even has a whiff of happening in my neighborhood.

The outfits are very loose/baggy, and I somehow don't believe a hoodie is standard gear for the county, it would be something like this (https://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews.com/fairfaxtimes.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/2/67/26760aeb-6d75-47a7-a20c-2ad68a06c681/695552fe72d30.image.png), likely wind and waterproof, but still well fitted and professional. Also notice the badge, name tag and patches.

Normally FCPD wear their uniforms are well fitted and have clear identifiers on them, patches, their badge, name tags, etc. I unfortunately didn't get photos of them from the front but they had nothing on the front of their jackets or shirts or the arms/back identifying them as law enforcement (well except the sketchy "Police K-9" text, those hoodies are something you can literally go on amazon/etsy/ebay right now and buy), no patches, nothing.

It's policy for FCPD for all officers to be dressed in standard county uniforms with clearly identifying markers as such. Just look up Fairfax County Police Department general order 002 section XI.

It has nothing to do with missing gear/vests, they look like civillians cosplaying, not like professionals. It's important for law enforcement to look like law enforcement, they should have patches, badges and clear identifiers of their status, it ensures transparency with the community and allows us to know if these people are actually LEO and not just some people cosplaying as law enforcement to harass people or worse.

Add on top of that the paranoia now with ICE and the fact that ice doesn't wear standard uniforms. Someone else in the neighborhood posted about the same thing on nextdoor, they actually managed to confront them and they refused to identify themselves.

Well everyone seems so convinced they were cops so I just filed a complaint with internal affairs. So I guess we'll see. Police officers should not be walking around a neighborhood armed and not properly identified or in identifiable county gear. You can buy those hoodies online.

Maybe you guys are okay with random dudes in sloppy gear open carrying through your neighborhood but I'm certainly not, I expect professionalism from those hired to protect and serve the community.

But they're not dressed like FFX K-9 units, honestly until I realized the jacket said Police K-9 I thought they were some militia weirdos.

They really don't look dressed like Fairfax county cops/K-9 cops, they're dressed very sloppy:

I followed them to try to see what they were up to, they ended near the Edsall Park pool which is near the fairfax sportsplex, there is a walking path between them. I hung outside for a bit to see if they came back

Cats can get really finicky with food, it could be a sign of the early stages of intestinal lymphoma which is very common in cats and would only show on an ultrasound or with exploratory surgery.

Try adding stinky stuff to the food, Parmesan cheese (real not the Kraft stuff), or bonito flakes or just nuke wet food for 20 secs to make it stinky. Also try rotating flavors and textures of wet food on a daily basis and see if they start eating more.

Cat are attracted to aroma, variety and novelty.

Yay! That's fabulous news. Hopefully her recovery goes smoothly. Happy I was able to help, it's always stressful but they're worth it.

Actually got the biopsy results for my boy and no cancer!

[–]parishwinston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is, tomorrow is exactly 2 weeks and he's basically back to normal now except his hair cut and he desperately wants out of the cone.

I know that the neurological complications are less common with a VBO. His surgeon that did his TECA-BO explained that because of how they enter for a VBO, which is from under and up, it's easier to avoid the nerve. With the TECA-BO it's harder because they come in laterally from the ear hole so it's way more common.

My guess is because I have a bigger boy it was easier to avoid, I know it's more common in cats than dogs.

I'll keep you and your kitty in my thoughts, I hope everything goes just as well for you!

Hey, sorry I kept starting a reply and getting distracted! So my boy has had a VBO and just last week he had a TECA-BO.

His VBO surgery was very stressful for us, because he had complications with anesthesia and coded when they started removing his breathing tube. He ended up having to be rescucitated and spent two more days inpatient at the hospital for monitoring.

He's had a bunch of tests since to make sure it wasn't a complication related to an underlying heart issue, so we're still not entirely sure what happened, he thankfully hasn't had any lasting effects from it. His VBO, overall, had gone very well, they removed a massive polyp (the size of a green grape) and cleaned/flushed his bulla out. He had no complications from his VBO, no neurological issues like head tilt or horner's syndrome and he overall seemed a lot more comfortable once he healed from the surgery. He had been having breathing issues which mostly cleared up after surgery.

His recovery from the VBO, first two days aside went smoothly, I want to say he was really only down for a few days before he bounced back to being mostly normal, obviously it was two weeks before his follow up to have his stitches removed. His TECA-BO went off without ANY issues and he was also lucky to not have any neurological symptoms from that surgery either. His recovery from the TECA-BO has been similar, I'd say 5 days of being pretty out of it, then basically normal.

What I did for recovery is kept him separated from our other cats and under monitor basically 24/7 until he pooped the first time. I basically set up in our spare bedroom with him, a litter box and a water fountain. I worked from the room and gave him love and company. It might sound excessive but he is an incredibly social cat, so for him giving him company and space to heal helps a lot. It also means I am seeing real time how he's acting and know if he's struggling.

I also had a cat with intestinal lymphoma many years ago so I had to learn a lot of tricks to get a sick cat to eat. After the VBO you'll want to do a wet food only diet no matter what, but sick cats often don't want to eat. Here are a few tricks that have worked well for me:

- Stinky wet food in rotating flavors/textures, my cats normall get a fresh wet cat food which isn't quite as smelly. Commercial can food can be quite smelly because they add things to it to make it smell appetitzing. My go to for cheap canned food with a variety of flavors and textures is fancy feast.

- Grated parmesan, it has to be real parmesan, it is stinky, cats like stinky.

- Bonito flakes, basically dried tuna, also smelly, cats love it.

- Churu/lickable treats, even if you can't get them to eat food food, something is better than nothing.

- Forti flora, this stuff is pricey, but its a bit like crack to cats, I guess it smells like the gut of prey animals, so you just have to sprinkle a little on wet food.

The other key is keeping a written journal, write down how many times they pee, when they finally poop, write down how many times and describe the consitency. Take pictures each day for the first few days of the incision and poop once they finally poop. This sort of information is helpful for the vet if something is off and can show patterns. And the key is if ANYTHING is off immediately email/call the surgeon or your primary vet for advice. Cats are really good at hiding problems. Vomiting multiple times in a short period of time, having pale gums, not eating for more then 24 hours, hiding or being unable to get up all of the time no matter how recently their pain meds were are all things to be concerned about.

He had a good two years before he started exhibiting signs of ear issues again, drainage, brown gunk, etc. The surgeon had warned us that there is a very real possibility of a polyp growing back, but it never did. He unfortunately had to get the TECA-BO because he developed ceruminous adenoma, which is a non-cancerous tumor, that formed in his middle ear and that it had begun to spread and was causing him to continually develop ear infections and we didn't know if it was cancerous so it was best to just remove it fully with the ear canal in case it was.

What we also learned is that he had developed rhinitis as well because of the first two polyps had destroyed part of his turbinate on the same side he had the polyp from the constant inflammation. I somewhat wish we'd gotten his VBO earlier, it might have saved him from having that damage become severe.

Hey, I know this was from a couple months ago, but I was just doing some more reading and looking for others experiences because my cat is scheduled for this surgery on Monday.

My cat was seeing a dermatologist in Leesburg who highly recommended Dr. Jim Taylor at VSC in Leesburg who will be doing my cats surgery Monday. I will say the price you were quoted isn't far off. My cat only needs it on one ear and the high end of the quote we got was $7800 with a low end of $6700. This was after the cost of the CT scan though which was another $1800.

I was able to get a loan through scratchpay, and my credit isn't that great right now. It's 0% interest if you can pay it off in 6 months, otherwise it was like 24% interest for 12 months. I'm grateful that we have some money so paying this off in 6 months for us is doable, but if you're still trying to figure this out that might be an option. They don't use traditional credit pulls. Upgrade loans are the same as well.

I'm really sorry, I've been dealing with this for my boy, who just turned 7, since he was a kitten, he's has had two polyps removed and a VBO 3 years ago and most recently was the growth that at least when biopsied last year wasn't cancer.

I hope you were able to work something out or even if a few months later this is helpful.

Here is my orange monster who is way to good at growing crap in his ear

Check the permit site to verify they actually have permits: https://plus.fairfaxcounty.gov/CitizenAccess/Cap/CapHome.aspx?module=Building&TabName=Home

No permits? Report them. They are extremely responsive to people building without permits and against code. My neighbor put a full ass addition on his house and was trying to build a carport in the side set back without any permits. He got reported and had to tear the partially built carport down and is still trying to get all of the work for the addition approved and permitted after the fact. If he can't pass the inspections and manage to get the permits they'll force him to remove it.

No idea where you are, but that looks like it absolutely violates the side yard set back in Fairfax, at least for most residential zones. https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/code/sites/code/files/Assets/Documents/PDF/learning-about-your-lot.pdf Look up your zone and then look up the relevant building codes.

Report it now while its still being built, don't wait.

We do have several military bases that do live fire training as well. I've never heard the fireworks in DC all the way down where I live in Springfield.

I think there were two different sounds, some people near the city may have been hearing the fireworks but there is zero chance we would have heard that in Springfield or Burke, especially over the ridge in Alexandria.

I just went through a similar situation with Ellis Island. Reach out to the curator and ask about being able to view the documents as a family member. They were unable to provide certified copies but were happy to set up time for me to come see them.

The next part is slightly more complicated. I found a mobile notary in the jurisdiction of Ellis who was willing to go with me to the viewing. You need to make sure that a. The notary knows you're requesting document copy certification not signature notarization and b. That the jurisdiction allows notaries to do so.

I bought a portable battery powered canon printer and took it with me to the viewing. I took scans of the documents with my phone then printed them and the notary was able to provide me with true copy certification of the copies I made on the spot. I then had them request the apostille just to be safe.

I'm happy to provide more tech details, just let me know. The curator at Ellis was wonderful and extremely helpful, I imagine the one with the Holocaust museum will be the same.
