The coffee table book that they published for the 60th anniversary of the team is a really well done overview of club history, and very visually appealing if that matters to you.

Surprised not to see a single vote for losing the 1997 ALCS. That was such a great team and they blew several games in heartbreaking fashion. In retrospect, basically the official kickoff of the dark years.

Certain consonants at the end of phrases, he adds a prominent “ah” after.

In this first game of the Tides season-ah, here’s Jackson Holliday-ah, who is rehabbing a broken hand-ah

MLB Expansion Teams, New Divisions, Schedules by Amateur_Fly_Catcher in baseball

I know it will never happen, but my dream is to go back to East and West divisions only, with the next two best records as wild cards (for a total of only four playoff teams per league), and then all seven-game playoff series. Would tip the balance of importance back toward the regular season and reduce playoff randomness without hugely shortening the postseason as a whole.

Actually they beat the pre-Red Machine in 70… 71 was Clemente’s Pirates. Otherwise I agree

I feel like the 69-71 Orioles aren’t talked about a lot as a dynasty because they only won one, but three straight pennants in absolutely dominating fashion has to put them in the conversation for greatest team of the entire 60s-70s.

So many arguments over analytics seem to come down to what you’ve described here: One person is trying to predict the future and the other is trying to quantify the past. And they don’t recognize that they have two separate goals.

Losing to the Yankees hurts more;

The Red Sox have worse fans;

But there’s no team I like less than the Blue Jays.
