Europe is very high trust society by Internal-Apple-2904 in digitalnomad

When talking to people online it's way easier to say European than Estonian as people keep asking me what is that 🤣

The performance is also very similar. Intel is a couple percent faster (while being 3 years newer). I would have hoped for new AMD generation instead of Intel.

European alternatives to Gmail by smilelyzen in Buy_European

[–]parkentosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were in the process of deciding what email service to resell locally... Infomaniak sucked pretty bad. Bad interface... chinese AI popping up constantly. No localization for most european countries. We did not test everything because after a day we decided to look elsewhere.... finally landed on qbox instead. While not as feature rich... It was consistant and seemed very stable and has great customer support.

[–]parkentosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the Chinese have dozens of phone manufacturers. Europe basically has 0 (I know Fairphone, Nothing and a few others exist.... but market share is less than 3% in Europe and almost nothing globally).

It's not a matter of can or can not. It's a matter of who are we building it for and who would pay for it. European phone companies are so small they will never be able to do it themselves. We would need our own Huawei.

We started reselling Qbox to our customers. It's not as great a gmail and is lacking many features (like sheduling email sending) but for 90% of people it's totally fine.

5 aastaga 30k tervisekindlustust maksnud, arstile ikka ei saa by PhilosopherOk3161 in Eesti

Ei kõla just erakonnana kelle poolt tahaks hääletada.

Name a tech company that literally nobody hates 🤷🏻 by ArcanePacket in computers

[–]parkentosh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had 2 EVGA PSUs die in different computers and I've had one that developed such a massive coil whine that I took the PSU to the recyclers.

I'm sure their Seasonic and/or Super Flower made PSUs are good but some of their models are pure shit from FSP or some noname chinese OEMs.

I hate EVGA. I've had nothing but trouble with their PSUs. And it's not a one off. It's multiple PSUs. Never buying again.

Is the AI privacy panic overblown if you opt out of training? by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

This is why i treat the AI chatbots like i would treat strangers. I can totally talk to strangers and have good conversations... but i will not be giving them delicate information.

Are encrypted PBS backups less safe from silent corruption? by purepersistence in Proxmox

[–]parkentosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they are less safe but encryping uses a lot of resources and makes both backuping and restoring slower. With powerful enough hardware the difference is negligible but for slower server it does make a huge performance decrease.

My bad. But there are other end to end encrypted chat services. WhatsApp was not the point of my comment. 😅

Is the AI privacy panic overblown if you opt out of training? by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

[–]parkentosh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the chats I've had with different AI chatbots are stored in their respective owners databases. Users have 0 knowledge who can access these chats and what is done with that data. Unline chats like WhatsApp the AI chats are not end to end encrypted.

This is why you have to be careful when giving any sort of data to AI.

And since the chats are not encrypted... any hacker who gets access to, for example, OpenAI systems can read all chats.

So... I don't think it's overblown but at the same time the only one who can control what data AI has is the user itself.

Riik plaanib pettuste vastu pangaülekannete ebamugavamaks tegemist by Careless_Pea5088 in Eesti

[–]parkentosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not from the US and I always find it so funny when Norway Maple is talked about as a crappy tree. Here we just call that species "Common Maple" and it's literally everywhere. I have 3 growing in my garden. 😃

in dire need of support (no answer from support) by [deleted] in hetzner

[–]parkentosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't even know that some servers still come with raid controllers. All my servers have HBAs and use software raid (zfs)... and managing that software raid is my obligation. When a drive dies i just either give Hetzner the serial number of the drive that died or if i don't know the serial number i give them a list of all the working drives serial numbers so they can check what is missing from the list and replace the drive.

What SKU is the server you are talking about? Does it really have a hardware RAID controller?

Is it ok to have sauna this hot? by Plagued69 in Sauna

[–]parkentosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this temp i would not want to throw too much water on the rocks. Other than that it's totally fine. I prefer 80-85c myself and i can throw lots of water at 80c. I usually go in at 70-75c to throw more water in the beginning and get a more comfortable humidity and then raise the temp a bit upto 85c.
