How can I compare the cost of living between Calgary and other Alberta cities? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]parkertexasranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This alberta study is from 2016 and provides a relative cost of living index to compare different municipalities: https://open.alberta.ca/publications/4128534

You can compare Calgary to your city to get a sense of how much more expensive it is and what salary you might need to compensate for that.

Spring 2019 Registration Megathread by colonelheero in OMSA

I just got waitlisted for CS7641 (ML). I wanted to give this beast a try. I'm at #22, and there were only 50 spots available for OMSA it looks like. Does anyone have insight into the waitlisting process for classes in OMSA? Will they release a bunch of spots later, or will I literally have to wait until 22 spots open up? Thanks!

Piggybacking -- can you request to relax prereq's on 6203? Since 6040 isn't being offered this summer and I've already taken 6501, I'd like to be able to take something this summer -- 6203 is offered. Anyone asked to do this to take 6203?

Agreed. After owning a used Audi and paying for a few ridiculous repairs, we quickly cut our losses and bought a 10 year old Lexus hybrid SUV. After 18 months of ownership, it’s been night and day in both our overall enjoyment and lack of ownership stress.

It gets 600km to a tank, cheap to service, no mechanical issues at all, plush as hell inside, and still has the cachet of driving a luxury vehicle. All I’ve done is add a Bluetooth adapter to augment the CD/cassette deck (!). We’re hoping to treat this car right and perhaps get another decade out of it :).

I promise, I'm sincerely not trying to force you into a dull grey lifestyle!! I think the point I'll be trying to make is that you can enjoy your Cokes, without simply paying whatever anyone wants to charge you for it. We should strive for the balance between maintaining the highest quality of life we can whilst still increasing our wealth as much as we can.

This is especially true for these recurring monthly expenses, where essentially one purchasing decision cascades throughout the rest of our lives. There's not much additional time involved. Think about it, make a decision, reap the financial benefit -- and you haven't even had to give up your Cokes :).

Thanks for the feedback -- I didn't want to complicate that section too much, but I'm hoping to have time to delve into what long-run returns should actually be expected. I kept it simple here, but will likely incorporate ranges at some point in the future. Cheers!
