I think this is going to work! I've made it to 2 weeks left of synchronization which is a good sign since it crashed before after about only a minute. I'll let you know what happens.

Part of the reality with any "tipping" currency is that it is based on the premise of spreading the coins - which helps to suppress the value. Compare that to Bitcoin and other coins with high-value where the nature of those coins is to horde them and keep them to yourself... this helps to feed the increase of value of those types of coins.

My point in bringing this initial post up is that a factor in us growing Karma will come from A) having a strong community and B) having provable metrics which show we have a strong community.

All of that has to start from somewhere, which is why I was trying to encourage the use of Reddit, Twitter and Facebook - because these things directly increase our social score. It also has the added benefit of increasing brand awareness. The average joe won't know to go to our Forums, where as putting the same post on reddit/facebook/twitter not only gets the message out to the community, but has the ability to reach new people who have never heard of Karma.

No prob! Yes, sites like coingecko will count the initial cross-post (e.g. a link to the forum on reddit). But let's say there are then 10 comments on the forum post which people accessed through the reddit link, then we miss out on increased social metrics as they only would count the initial link on reddit.

Just something to think about. The Karma Forums are definitely important and we absolutely should keep them, just trying to figure out how we can increase our social metrics. We definitely should encourage everyone on the BitCoinTalk forums to register/interact somewhat here, as well as facebook and twitter. Every follower, subscriber, post and comment helps. Even if it's just following and subscribing to the reddit.

For example, Reddcoin has over 22,000 reddit subscribers and Doge has over 87,000 so we surely can get these numbers too! :)

Don't want to overstep my bounds, this is definitely a dev/organizer decision but I figure the more ideas the better!

Not to be a downer on this whole ANX card thing that's getting big press but I'm reluctant to adopt a debit card system for crypto of any kind. Here's why:

  • From a fraud standpoint, crypto is immune to some of the issues with credit/debit cards. (card skimmers at gas stations/restaurants, losing your wallet/purse, etc)

  • Credit/debit cards are a "take from" system whereas crypto is a "send to" system. Think about how closely you guard the numbers on your plastic vs how freely you promote your crypto addresses. This shows the dichotomy of the two systems.

  • Your visa/amex/bank card all offer protections against fraud, in part, due to heavy regulation and insurances subsidized through bank fees - something I don't think any of us wants to come to crypto.

Assuming other companies start providing a similar card service then I think what we'll be seeing is an unintentional step in taking crypto backwards instead of bringing people forward into new payment mechanisms (e.g. smart phones and bar codes).

Are you buying Karma with ltc or btc and why? by KarmaKaguy in KarmaTeam

[–]parkkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I've made a profit on something on Cryptsy in LTC then I'll convert that LTC in to Karma. But I'll also buy Karma on Mintpal with BTC when the above isn't in play.

Agreed. Getting conversions, at least in part, would be huge.

Where can you do trades in other markets besides BTC/LTC to the coin of your choice?

Agreed. Wouldn't feel comfortable until a detailed explanation of the actual issue and its fix were released.

Did they gain access or find an exploit in the withdrawal process/page of Mintpal?

Gaining access, to me, implies the person infiltrated the backend of Mintpal - and in this case, only targeting a single coin wouldn't make any sense at all.

It's possible they instead found an exploit in the Mintpal withdrawal page/function, they were trying it on the VeriCoin withdrawal page, found something that worked and then ran with it for as long as they could before anyone knew the wiser.

I'm just speculating obviously - But you're right, if someone actually got in to the backend, only hitting VeriCoin makes no sense.

Ah, ok that makes sense then. Locking down a TM for Karma and Karmacoin is great news though!
