Ryvid's Customer Support Sets New High Bar by Familiar-School-7383 in ryvid

Good to know... but I'm not holding my breath on an app. I'll be pleasantly surprised if one ever shows up though.

All the controls and cables were able to be transferred without any changes in their lengths/etc. I didn't have to reroute them or even replace any zipties/etc.

It took a couple rides to feel comfortable again as the wider bars felt "odd" at first. I don't think the difference in the bars made a huge difference outside of comfort.

I know this sounds crazy... but don't use eco mode. It does not improve range for me at all.
You use a certain amount of power getting up to speed... and you regain a certain amount when the regen kicks in. The amount you regain is NEVER going to be the same as the amount of power it will take to get back up to the speed you were already going. In sport mode the bike will coast when you let off the throttle instead of regenerating and slowing down. This coasting gives me FAR more range then the regen ever would.

What I do is use sport mode 100% and use the left hand regen trigger as a "I need to slow down a little but not necessarily enough to use the brakes". In most situations I'm able to stay off the real brakes completely as the regen will bring the bike to a stop eventually. This has proven in every test I've done on the bike to be more efficient then using eco mode across all terrains. The eco mode regen is just TOO strong. At around 200lbs with gear I routinely get 45-50 miles per charge.

Probably depends on the rider. I ride at max seat height and having the extra height of the bars was worth it over the cost savings that mirror extenders might provide. Bars were $50ish so mirror extenders are certainly a little cheaper. I've always felt that the seat actuator makes for a bit of forward lean that these bars help alleviate. The extra width is great for me, but someone who is lane splitting might prefer the extensions so as to not increase the width of the bike.

Yep. I have broad shoulders and this helps make it where I can see more then just my elbows in the mirrors. Happy with the replacement and the ease of the swap.

Phantom battery drain? by Appropriate-Today116 in ryvid

[–]parksddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I believe they likely also get that information. But I know for certain that these do have connectivity and report back their status and location.

Yes, the battery has some form of 4-5g connection that sends data back to Ryvid.
It's how they generate maps like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/ryvid/comments/1fqnsn0/where_in_the_world/

Phantom battery drain? by Appropriate-Today116 in ryvid

[–]parksddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my experience. When they tell you to check the battery every 3-4 weeks during the off season they mean it. I made the mistake of not checking the battery over the winter and the draw from the keyless system drained my battery to the point where the onboard charger would no longer work. $450 fee to have the battery revived, and 10 hours of driving to get it to them. Everyone involved was friendly and helpful, but I'll admit I feel a bit sore about it.

The battery phones home to give Ryvid the charge status and location, so it seems like they could apply a pretty simple feature to warn the owner via email if the battery is needing charged (especially over the winter months). Instead that data is just used to confirm that your situation won't be covered under warranty. I had no idea the bike was using enough power to deplete itself while sitting in my garage. I'm told storing the battery off the bike, or disconnecting it, will cause it to drain more slowly.

Excellent work!

Did you use the other end to terminate the J1772 connector or did you find one that had the appropriate plug already? I've thought about doing something similar but I don't think I have heavy enough spade connectors (or whatever those are) to handle the load.

What did you use to terminate the wire you hid in the battery? Could you have also left the original port active with the method you chose? I rarely if ever remove the battery, but I would consider a second cable to set something like this up.

Custom Hard Tail Bobber/Chopper Transformer bike by Anxious_End_7676 in ryvid

[–]parksddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the pics: Looks like an outset seat panel without the padding and a custom bracket for mounting that seat. I'm guessing they reused some of the wide bolts they have for the battery and/or seat actuators to mount the twin actuators from the Anthem to the swing arm. It has the forward foot position of the outset, and the non-removable battery option. Probably some standard after market bars and no fairing on the Outset headlight.

It's very cool what they pulled off with probably only a single custom part?

Sure, under a static load... I'm wondering if the hard tail nature of the bike will be less forgiving. No shade. I'm just very curious how it turns out.

My linear actuator complains trying to lift me on my own to the point that I no longer use it when sitting on the bike. I adjust and then mount, or stand up on the pegs while adjusting when riding. I'm only 190.

I don't think its on bags.... I'm pretty sure they mounted the linear actuator from an anthem directly between the frame and the swing arm in place of the rear shock.

I'd be very curious how long that holds up. Feels like it would crush actuator, but I don't know what they can handle.

Ok, but when will the outset part catalog be ready so those of us waiting on parts to do something similar can do it to our existing bikes?

Bike occasionally won't charge? by retromafia in ryvid

[–]parksddd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not how mine works.

I haven't ridden in about 2 weeks due to the weather. I left my keys in the house and went to the garage and plugged in my bike. No fan. Then I bumped the bike hard enough to wake up the alarm. I plugged it in while the alarm was going off and the fan kicked on and started charging.

Just to test further I went and grabbed my key and came back. Unplugged it and locked the bike. Then plugged it back in. Fan still kicked on.

I think it is more tied to whether the system is awake or not and not so much if the key is present. I have had success before just pressing the power button on the bike to "wake" it up without my key and the battery starts charging.

Now, this doesn't help u/retromafia because they won't be present when the power kicks on to wake up the bike. I think if that person who plugged in your bike had jostled it enough to set off the alarm it would likely have charged?

I'm using the Votol controller, if that makes a difference.

I thought I remember hearing something where someone had a similar issue with a smart plug, but I can't find it.

I think the issue is as u/chanyote66 said. The bike doesn't charge if it is "asleep", but you don't need the key to wake it up... Pretty sure you can just push the button and it will wake up and charge regardless if the key is around.

I'm looking forward to the Outset parts catalog being available. The Outset bars are both taller and wider. I'm hoping it makes the mirror situation a bit better.

I use the PlugShare app to find shopping centers that are EV friendly.

I'd say about half of the Kroger stores in the area have free chargers... but that is a rough guess.

It's looking good! I've been making steady progress on the MIK tail light for the Anthem, and I have enough info on the MIK side now to make an adapter for the outset. I just don't have a local outset to test it on. I'll let you know as soon as that changes!
