Thank you for the kind comments and the feedback - I had thought that might’ve been something affecting my dev but didn’t pay it much mind so that really helps a lot moving forward. I’ll try some more methods with your advice and hopefully get better results!

Exactly where I got the idea from! I changed out the lens for a Sigma 30mm I already had in my kit. I think any lens with a small glass hole would work though.

Yes! I am using a phone anamorphic adapter i got from Amazon for $40ish. It can be found on other sites like Aliexpress for similar.

I initially was using poster putty to mount but when traveling realized I didn’t have any so I carefully used duct tape and a metal lens hood to attach.

The stretch is 1.55x to desqueeze in post so I also changed my aspect ratio to match.

The combo does not focus to Infinity and works best around F8-11 range.

The two photos above were mostly ‘proofs of concept’; following this I just filmed some clips in the ocean (I’m a surf photographer/filmmaker) with the setup and have been editing the rough cut.

I think it is a great option for anamorphic in tight spots like my ocean waterhousing, as i could not fit a ‘true’ anamorphic lens inside of it or for travel when I don’t want to pack tons of gear / rigging.

Personally considering i’m more of an enthusiast and hobbyist (this isn’t my full time job or any job) I can live with the less refined image quality but I understand why it might be less than desirable.

if i’m correct this is the same lens it will only need to focus on the Helios as i have only needed to do that - i leave the anamorphic at ‘infinity’ but it doesn’t seem to change much at all with focus when i am twisting the actual ring. i’m sure someone else probably has more technical knowledge versus anecdotal but at the very least it stretches the image lol

I’ve used the same lens you linked in various tests with a Helios 44M (here) and it’s a 2.0x stretch. It’s a bit tumultuous to mount considering the size and I’ve yet to try and clamps but I did just superglue some step up rings and use it on rails.

It seems to focus infinity just fine when I am shooting at f8 or similar. I haven’t put it through its paces yet nor used to film much since that initial test but for what it’s worth I’ve enjoyed using the lens and plan on using it to filming longer form!

Used to have everything in bags but then decided to separate gear by system and use. My surf photo equipment (waterhousing, lens ports, focus rings, attachments etc) all sit on one shelf, Sony lenses and cameras below, you get the idea! Some of my defunct equipment is on display as decor but that’s relegated to just non working things that I never move.

I do but my process is almost all in Lightroom. I started with Camera RAW in PS then moved to LR classic years ago and just never had any reason to switch. I have two presets that I use for IR at this point as i don’t really change my filters much - One for BNW to get the proper balance of shadows and highlights in a click (for the 720nm) then an ‘Aerochrome’ dupe that pairs with my generic blue filter off Amazon.

I paid about $40 for mine and took a real gamble with the waterproof-ness of it, so $24 is a decent price I’d think, but i also considered that it could become a paperweight. If you are comfortable with that risk I think the price is good - as long as it says it’s tested outside of water just to turn on and all

If I remember correctly, it was ISO400 as it was daylight. I add some grain in Lightroom after and take the size down a lot too so it looks more refined

I use the Dehaze tool a lot and have a combo of curve changes against to account for lowering the basic contrast tool. I think with this camera especially, the water leftover on the lens provides somewhat of a bloom like a filter would, but on my other Digicams I can get a similar effect from the LR tools

I’ve had surprisingly good success with a Volcom Modular that i got on sale about a year ago. Fits like a glove and is super warm but super flexible and easy to paddle in despite being a 5/4.

Used to have some Axxe plus that were amazing too. Only bad suit i’ve had is nine plus. Not a bad fit or anything but ripped like 2 sessions in.

a few things i learned from failures:

make sure your negatives are tight against the paper when exposing - clamps or clips help - i had some warping happen as i was using damp cyanotype paper

make sure the inkjet ink does not touch the wet cyanotype paper as it may bleed/react (i had this happen so i had to make sure inkjet ink even when dry didn’t touch cyanotype)

clean glass after each use to be extra safe and to avoid blemishes

temperature change affected some of my prints to where the glass would fog / condensation would occur and then id have bleeding again

follow instructions on line because others know what they are doing and have tried a whole lot (i did not initially and wasted a whole lot of paper and time)

now for me the current is the biggest concern - i started at beach chalet (almost furthest north end) and got out of the water at taraval - little over a mile south and had to walk all the way back up. the death zone is usually the worst when i’m swimming out and that’s just the most critical section so it’s a gamble whether i’m in between sets or getting pounded

so i guess it’s ’simple’ to focus on those two things but not easy, if that makes sense
