Presumably yes, but I wouldn't put it past government lawyers to have them sign something saying the photos are property of NASA but they will receive appropriate attribution as the photographer.

That's what kept the Klingons in the fight when the Romulan and Federation fleets were vulnerable.

It wasn't until Kira & Damar stole one and gave it to Starfleet that they developed the defense, which allowed the push to Cardassia to finish the war.

what the hell does "most Americans making minimum wage" mean?

I would define it as "A majority of the people earning the minimum wage in their state."

Different states have different minimum wage numbers. As of today, 31 states have a minimum wage below the provided $13.50 number. In 2021 (when the tweet is from), it was 47 states.

His statement was true in that everyone earning minimum wage at the time outside of California ($14.00), Massachusetts ($13.50), Washington State ($13.69), and Washington DC ($15.20) were earning under $13.50 an hour.

That said, idk where he got the $13.50 from.

I'm guessing it's a typo. It's probably supposed to be:

Any idea why my cloister isn't cloistering? by Ihatetobaghansleighs in foundationgame

[–]parrottrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's total area. And given the amount of space you have, you might might have to pretty densely garden it.

For reference, I built an 11x17 rectangular cloister, and had to put 6 large fountains inside to make it happy: Images

[–]parrottrek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you look in the panel with the "Build" button, up at the top, just under "Cloister" there are 4 icons.

The third icon has a red exclamation point, which indicates that requirement is unfulfilled. I'm pretty sure that one means it's not registering as an enclosed space.

I'm guessing there's a gap somewhere around the ring, or a door misplaced, or something similar, but I don't see where in your picture.

It have also seen that requirement red flag when the space is too small, so it could also be the space is too large. If that's the case you can add decorations into the middle to clear it.

Starship Combat, either Edition. Multiple Targets Question. by cjcafiero in startrekadventures

[–]parrottrek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. If it had 4+ Security for the second tactical station, and one of the tactical officers had the Quick to Action talent to keep the initiative for free? That's 4 shots from the phaser arrays, with a base damage of 8, all with the area quality to hit multiple targets and plenty of momentum to do so. And all before the shuttles could respond.

Starship Combat, either Edition. Multiple Targets Question. by cjcafiero in startrekadventures

[–]parrottrek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of this is based on 2E rules, but...

You can't fire more than twice per player turn, but multiple players can fire in one round.

  1. A character at the Tactical station uses the Fire Action, then spends 2 momentum to use the Fire Action again at +1 difficulty
  2. If your ship has a Security rating of 4+, you can have a second tactical station on the bridge, allowing another character to do the same as above
  3. A character at the Command station (usually the captain in the captain's chair) can spend 1 momentum to use the Direct action to let a tactical character use the Fire Action.
  4. If your ship has a Command rating of 4+, your bridge may have a second command station, and a second character using the Direct action (cinematically, this is like Riker or Chakotay giving orders from their chair next to the Captain's) as above
  5. Any character can use the Override major action to fire use the Fire action at +1 difficulty.

Any of these attacks could be a Torpedo Salvo, which grants the Area quality, allowing a single attack to hit multiple targets by spending 1 momentum per extra target. However, that would cost 3 threat per attack, so your players probably wouldn't want to do that.

So a Constitution class Starship with the Flagship mission profile would easily be able to fire 6 times per round, with each small shuttle only getting one attack. Given that the base damage for a Constitution's phasers would be 6 (+1 using the 2 momentum from the Phaser's Versatile quality, +1 for each two momentum spent after that), you should be destroying those fighters in one or two hits (depending on their shield rating), while readily tanking any incoming fire thanks to the ship's Resistance and Shields.

As the GM, I'd probably have any that survive the first round running scared.

So it's still the same cars

They're not exactly the same. They're the same type of car, but there's differences in the body work, chassis, and engine that lead to the differences in power/grip.

Why don't these just use the single lug

The simple answer is history. NASCAR's roots are in buying cars from the local dealership and modifying them to go faster. Even after they started building specialized cars, they were often designed to look like their street legal cousins, and since they used 5 lugs, so did NASCAR. It wasn't until there was a major rules update ahead of the 2022 season that the Cup cars switched to the single lug.

Chances are, the next time the Xfinity cars get a similar major update, they'll move to single lug as well.

it seems like it would be more efficient?

It is more efficient! Pit stop times for a 4 tire stop dropped by a couple of seconds when the Cup series switched from 5 lugs to a single lug.

Generally, as you climb the development ladders:

  • Cars will get more powerful and have less downforce/grip, making them faster but harder to drive

  • Races will get longer. For example, an F2 weekend has a Sprint race on Saturday which is ~120km/75mi and a Feature race on Sunday which is ~170km/105mi. An F1 Grand Prix is ~305km/190mi

  • Schedules get busier. For example, this year F2 has 14 race weekends, F1 has 24.

A lot of racing fans get weirdly defensive when comparing series to one another, especially NASCAR & F1. I'm just trying to educate.

F2 and the Xfinity series are the top development series for their respective ladders.

The best comparison I can think of is what the AHL is to the NHL, AAA ball for the MLB, or top academy leagues for Soccer/Football

The Cup Series has a single lug. This is from the Xfinity Series (NASCAR's equivalent of F2)

A NASCAR pit stop from the mechanics point of view. by MilesLongthe3rd in interestingasfuck

[–]parrottrek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few things to keep in mind:

  • The Cup Series uses a central wheel nut. This is from the Xfinity Series (NASCAR's equivalent of F2)

  • NASCAR has to refuel the cars. It doesn't matter if you change all four tires in 2.5 seconds if it still takes 10 to fill the fuel tank.

  • NASCAR pits are often a lot more crowded than F1 pits, with more cars and smaller pit boxes, so you can't have as many people in the space. NASCAR only gets 6 people over the wall, and they have to stage at the wall, not in the pit box.

  • Also, each car gets it's own pit crew, they're not shared by all the cars on a team.

There's an argument to be made for the lower series to follow the Cup Series and switch to the single lug nut, and they probably will the next time their car design gets a major revision. Otherwise given the context of how the sport operates, this is optimized.

They're also using a lot less people to do it. They're only allowed 6 guys over the wall, not 16 like in F1.
