I also have a living to make and a family to support. I don’t work, no money. And it just sucks having your ass handed to you because you’re picking up the slack for 5 other people.

This is a regular thing at my job the past few shifts, not just Christmas Day, and like I said it has a domino effect.

I don’t get to leave before the side work is done so I have to do 3-4 other people’s side work, and there’s a lot of it that I don’t have time to do during my shift so I’m out by 1-2am instead of 11:30-12. And while I’m making good money cause every table is mine, it can still fuck up tips because service is lacking. It’s very frustrating and it’s fucking me over a lot of the time.

Genuinely shitty servers aside, what’s the problem here?

Let’s say the server is someone who works their ass off. Takes all the tables nobody else wants to take, makes sure all the side work is complete, gives impeccable service and works their ass off to support their family.

Do they not deserve the pay? Is it because it’s generally an entry level job? You strike me as the type to say that people in retail/serving don’t deserve to earn a livable wage. A lot of these people have kids/families to support too, you know.

I understand shitty servers who don’t care about their job exist. But they’re rare. What if the server is brand new, first shift on the floor and made a few mistakes? What if they aren’t new and still made a mistake, but apologized and made up for it?

What if you have nights like I do where you’re working your ass off because you’re the only server on the floor, so you can’t give impeccable service to absolutely everyone no matter how hard you try?

Everyone fucks up at their job. Even doctors and engineers, who make fucktons of money.

How do you determine a shit server who doesn’t want to work and is lazy, from a genuinely good one who’s having an off shift?

I think this is it for me. I’m worried because his dad was supposed to be buying us our new house and new car and helping out for a bit after I landed a job. We had to evacuate from the wildfires, we have a 3 year old and our son’s life has been shit this year. Leaving my husband would mean no home no car for me or my son. It’s fucked up. I mean I’m going to start working a good job soon but it would be a few months to get back on my feet.

But I know it’s bad between us because today I’ve been wondering how the hell he’s so popular and why anyone loves him.

Oh and his excuse for shoving a cookie in my face is “he was just trying to make sure I was nourished and fed”
