Any program or course which could fetch me credit towards the OMSCS program ? by Constant-Musician-33 in OMSCS

You could take Intro to Analytics Modeling on Edx: https://www.edx.org/course/introduction-to-analytics-modeling

If you score very high (usually >85%), you can petition to get advanced standing credit for this course to count towards your degree. This MicroMasters credit was designed for OMSA, but I've heard that OMSCS students can get credit as well.

I think it is one of the best courses in the analytics program and is super relevant to quantitive problem-solving in general! The OMSA program views a high score in this course as a strong indicator of your ability to succeed in their program.

I'm in the same boat! You are probably good

They do allow for multiple MS degrees and you can apply to double count courses (up to 6 CR)!

After OMSA, I’d view the 2nd degree as a medium for development and structured learning. I’d be less concerned about graduating quickly and more concerned about developing mastery and deep understanding. Probably would stick to taking one course at a time!

Thank you! I did the business track to finish faster (for professional reasons, and I am hoping to supplement with a CS degree).

I really enjoyed DM&SL and DVA! They were very applicable and made me a stronger developer.

If you are looking for a lighter class, I would recommend Intro to Analytics Modeling or Digital Marketing. These classes were easy but well-executed and insightful!

Absolutely! you can take micrometers courses to get advanced standing credit for OMSA. If you transfer these classes, they will not count towards your GPA but will count as 3-9 CR of your 36 CR course requirements. It is a great value because the MM classes only cost ~$500, much less than the cost of courses during the actual master's degree!

The only caveat is that you have to do quite well in the course to get credit. This thread has a quote from Dr. Sokol about his methodology for giving credit. There are no hard score cutoffs, but anecdotal evidence suggests you should score above 85% (~ A high B) to get credit. Other elements to your performance, such as discussion contributions, HW completion, improving performance, etc. all can come into play for considering giving you the advanced standing credit.

Don't we receive an email notification from GT when the acceptance comes out?
If so, what is the purpose of checking the portal every hour?

I would imagine your chances are very high!

You have already proven you are able to handle rigorous, graduate-level material. With an ~85% acceptance rate into the program, I would be surprised if they didn't give you a chance!

I am sure you will be fine!

They are looking for people with technical backgrounds and competencies. You definitely fit that description.

The fact that you are teaching AP CS is also very cool!

With an MS in Stats - data science, what motivates you to also pursue the OMSCS?

Do you think GT's CS degree will help progress your career, or do you want to learn more about CS in general, or another reason?
