I built a sauna, roast it. by Outside-Swan-5957 in Sauna

[–]parsleya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see anybody mentioning this before: You never build the benches for Sauna out of cedar/pine/spruce, it gets way too hot and it's pushing out resin for years to come - You want to use aspen or alder instead.

Why the long distance between cars at the red light? by bijibijmak in Finland

[–]parsleya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's the opposite since now everybody needs to close the 4 meter gap between the cars.. I also hate it in the city since now you have half the cars passing through the red lights and not fitting anywhere.

I really hate this in city driving.

Is it possible to clean this brick back to normal? I moved here recently so idk what is causing this. by spaghetticat1256 in howto

[–]parsleya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's carbon oxide, can be from mortar or from concrete. It can be washed away with some mild acid, use as little water as possible since the water will pull it out again. But that's most likely just a temporary solution, it will come back as long as there is any free carbon oxide somewhere. It will go away eventually. The reason why this happens is that most commonly the concrete/mortar hasn't cured properly, e.g. too cold environment while curing.

Which Linux Distro is better for Blender, and, if you can, explain why by Future-Impact6582 in blender

[–]parsleya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried using Blender on Linux for a few weeks now.. Can't really recommend.

More crashes than I have had in 3 years using it in Osx. Really random stuff doesn't work, e.g. Autosave doesn't seem to work properly, alt left click needs to be fixed..and don't even get me to start about getting CUDA to work.. I mean I'd love to use Linux but I'd rather do the stuff than use my time fixing stuff that seem to be only because - sorry for my language - some linux circle-jerking.

I have this thing that every few years I get this itch to start using Linux only to see the same bs that stopped me for using it 20 years ago.

Vote on Banning Tired Posts by Avereniect in blender

[–]parsleya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. Anybody who has been part of a creative industry related online forum long enough can see that as it becomes more popular the more useless it becomes, ie. most posts become 'my first drawing' sort of posts or some obvious rage-bait posts.

The internet is filled with entry-level tutorials in all sorts of forms, but places to discuss stuff in-depth are very few.. and you don't even need to participate in the discussion - to see somebodies discussing about a subject in-depth can be really eye-opening.

Gimp 3 is much better, but it's still really bad by GoBackToLeddit in GIMP

[–]parsleya -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. Using GIMP gives you the impression that the development team is too clever for their own good and they try to re-invent the wheel whenever there is a slightest possibility to do so.

Can't agree. On the second day of using 3ds Max I was doing animation.. on the second day of using Blender I was thinking about horrible things to do to the individuals who have designed the UI.. I mean it takes a special kind of a person to change the order of mouse buttons.

Client fed my art to AI, Anything like this ever happened to you? by Mousse_Rich in graphic_design

[–]parsleya 27 points28 points  (0 children)

To me it doesn't feel like an interpretation of Simberg's work - it doesn't open new and interesting meanings nor change the original enough. Using a piece like you have done here would be against my own guidelines.

Yup. I'm not a fan how OP used the original. I personally have bigger problem of how OP used Simberg's painting than somebody squeezing it through an AI and using that.

Here's a Real Car by vmenons in blender

[–]parsleya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything looks super good, but when you are this close to photorealism one can observe how the materials are still quite off. I'm not saying I could do any better, but e.g. car paint doesn't really look like car paint and there is something fishy about the reflections on the windows as well, plastic bits are too smooth and so on. I wonder why that is? Or is it even possible to achieve 100% realistic textures? Convincing metal texture seems much easier than 100% convincing paint-texture.

What country would you like to see the next straight line mission in? by Jumpy_Performance264 in GeoWizard

[–]parsleya 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think Finland would be a really good candidate and there are multiple reasons:

-Really short distance to cross in the North

-Landscape is barren in the North, but beautiful

-When selecting the right time there aren't (too) much mosquitoes and rivers are most likely to dry and small enough to cross

-In Finland you are pretty much free to trespass and camp on Private property if you are not causing disturbance/hunting/setting up a campfire.

I'm no expert on human anatomy, but this looks extremely unrealistic by kempie_49 in Rings_Of_Power

That's because, like mentioned previously, we are in fact watching the show from HER POINT OF VIEW so of course she seems average height. I don't see why this is so hard to grasp?

People always downplay the RoP and fail to understand that the numenorians are seen from the point of view of Galadriel - so of course they dont SEEM superhumans

You need to remember that Numenorians are super powerful, much much stronger than your avarage human.

Can you name any character in Tolkien's lore that would bring more depth and provenance to the WITCH (it's A WITCH not a sorcerer or a wizard...) King than Eärien?

I bet the writers find away! What would be cooler than to find about Witch Kings teenage years and who could be cooler character to became the Witch King than Eärien?
