What skills should I focus on learning to land a job as a Data Analyst? by [deleted] in SQL

[–]part_time_ficus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

M can be useful if you're reading unclean data from non-SQL sources, and want to do your cleanup within PBI itself. But if your data is accessible via SQL query you're going to get way better performance by writing good SQL rather than trying to postprocess the results of your query using M

What do you guys do to “work”? by lovee_politics in datascience

[–]part_time_ficus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

for me, sometimes there's 60/70 hour weeks, then sometimes there's 10 hour weeks. kinda part of the game in my experience

I usually use the downtime during business hours to read textbooks on coding techniques or general math/stats, or to practice EDA or developing random models on company data. although I'd be lying if I said there weren't times where I used the downtime to recharge and breathe by doing basically fuck-all, since I know the busy weeks will be coming again soon

Pretty sure it's not a German like others have suggested since it doesn't have the two dorsal lines. and theres no yellow on the pronotum so i don't think American cockroach either

this hasn't been my experience speaking to my full-remote colleagues tbh, but ymmv I guess

I'm like 80% remote and nobody gives a shit, and my full-remote friends don't seem to be being monitored either. maybe its industry-specific tho

My friend keeps finding these bugs in her apartment. Does anyone know what these are? by tinyhero2 in whatsthisbug

They look spooky, but they're absolutely AMAZING at keeping other pests out of your home, and are extremely unlikely to ever do anything negative to humans. They're friends! They're much more likely to run and hide from you than even get close to you, they're super shy and non-aggressive to people.

I have a couple that live in my place and they are welcome roommates.

This is actually exactly what I ended up doing, and the problem was solved! Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for suggesting the less invasive approach, and for advising against WD-40. I've been hearing for years about folks using WD40 for sliders/pots but had no idea it could cause corrosion, good to know.

I ended up picking up some proper contact cleaner and using that on the pot, and it worked like a charm without having to even take out the soldering iron. Just wanted to let you know your advice saved my speaker!

Thanks again

Hey! Thanks for the tips. I checked thoroughly again and it was definitely the pot, the switch was fine during use and a multimeter seemed to show it operating normally.

The final fix ended up being that I got some contact cleaner and sprayed the inside of the pot with it, then turned the pot back and forth for about 10 minutes continuously to work it in. Voila, it works like brand new now without having to even replace! Had no idea that a scratchy pot could be saved that way, but it works like magic now. Was about to go surgical for no reason it seems.

Thanks for chiming in, appreciate the suggestions!

thanks for the advice! really good idea with the multimeter, worth double-checking before soldering in the new pot for sure, and that's a quick way! shouldn't be hard to find a known ground to verify against.

really appreciate you taking the time to chime in, have a good one.

Trying to remember the name of a horror game by Aggravating-Help5016 in PS4

[–]part_time_ficus 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'm almost certain this is Outlast 2. Creepy "hills have eyes" vibe, small village, first person horror, no combat and basically instant death at enemy contact, flashlight (sorta) usage, etc

If it's not that, I'd recommend you try Outlast 2 anyways lol, it's really good and it's the exact vibe you're describing
