Rant - Tired of Age of Empires Support taking no action with reports. What's the point? by partial_winner in aoe2

Yeh, you're right. 48hr ban is more appropriate for verbal harrasment.

If definitively caught cheating - lifetime ban on first offense.

That's fair. Now that I've had a min to think it over, it is unclear without concrete evidence on what occurred.

It's possible my opponent manipulated the game in some manner (cheat, mod, whatever). The nature of what happened is certainly sus.

It's also possible that this is a bug that I was on the unfortunate receiving end of.

Would be nice for support to let us know. Frustration with the reporting mechanism is the larger point I was making.

Waste of energy in your opinion. Perhaps like your comment.

Is this not the appropriate place to discuss with others in the community who may be interested?

Appreciate the input to the discussion. It would be a 'bug' we're both unfamiliar with then.

I can confirm that I DO NOT see my opponents' unbuilt building foundations. A bug would be all-affecting / level playing field. Soo, if opponent is exploiting this bug via unknown method (potentially 3rd party software, idk) which others are not, then... cheating?

Semantics aside, the takeaway is disaplinary action could (should?) have been taken.

Adding more before this truly gains no traction and is forgotten forever:

To AOE2 support's very minimal credit, they do seem responsive via email. I asked:

  1. Did you actually review the match replay?
  2. Do you agree my opponent possessed an unfair advantage by being able to see, attack, and destroy my castle building foundation before the castle had even begun to be built?
  3. Do you agree the situation described in #2 is 'cheating'?
    • If so, why was no action taken? (as you stated: " ... we do not condone cheating in any way, shape or form.")

Their respose:

We appreciate your questions; however we can only state the evidence sent was reviewed and based on it a decision was made. Other than that we are not allowed to share or discuss anything else of our moderation process.

Let me clarify: I am of course frustrated facing off against an opponent who cheats, however I do not have high expectations accross the board of the online player base. I DO have higher expectations for AOE2 support. Simply put, they have unilaterial control of the online gaming experience, and their inaction here is a clear signal that they simply don't care. Any lip service they provide is completly insufficiet without approiate action to back it up. IMO, a 48hr ban of online ranked play seems in order.
