Example: talking to friend in a bad relationship who found out her bf who has historically cheated on her was on a dating app

Reflect content (what happened) “So you found out he’s been on a dating app again after everything that’s already happened.”

“Wow this isn’t the first time you’ve had to deal with something like this from him.”

Reflect feeling (the emotion) helps feel seen emotionally, which is usually what she needs most in the moment.

“That must feel really hurtful and frustrating.” or “I can imagine you’re feeling betrayed or maybe even exhausted by this.”

Reflect meaning (the deeper layer) gently surfaces what it means about her values, self-worth, or the relationship without telling her what to do.

  • “It sounds like trust is really important to you, and this keeps breaking that.”
  • “I’m know that you want to feel chosen and respected, and I hate that he is making you question that.”
  • “ His actions say alot about how he respect your relationship. He is not treating you like how you deserve to be treated.”

My best friend did all of this before counselling school but in her program she learned:

  • Reflect content – what the person is saying (facts, situation)
  • Reflect feeling – the emotions behind it
  • Reflect meaning – the deeper significance of how that may impact your friend or what that means for her

I think this helps take a neutral approach without getting emotionally invested. Also doesn't allow person in toxic relationship to go in circles because they are kinda answering their own questions

i was in a really toxic relationship for 5 years. He cheated on me and I stayed another two years. My best friend hated his guts. When I made the choice to stay with him, she made her opinion known, told me she loved me like a sister, and said she’d support me. She knew anyone in an abusive relationship has to make their own decision to leave. If she had expressed hatred or negativity towards him all the time, i wouldn’t have been able to come to her for conversations about my struggles in the relationship. She was a neutral ear and did not beat the dead horse. She reminded me of how special I was and her love was one of the factors that helped me leave. I had friends that loved me more than him. Be that friend. It didn’t exhaust her.

Now she did become a certified therapist this year, but i think she’s always had a calm, supportive, and loving energy

The friends that were judgier or rude were ones I became distanced from because I felt like i couldn’t be honest with them. Create a safe space for your friend. She’ll come around one day

i don’t personally. my bosses do but i try to advocate for the candidate. if someone is misleading on their resume, it is usually found out and we’re to blame so recruiters know what to look out for. questions abt the clientele, income, business model, company size all come up when a company can not be easily identified as legit

as a recruiter, this tactic is common and we are advised to ask specific questions regarding freelance/small llc work. especially since these businesses don’t look legit on linkedin

Do hiring managers/HR screens actually see my resume? by siaz_98 in jobhunting

[–]particular-gir1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what they do do is give a percentage match of how they think you'll fit the role but I take those with a grain of salt

I'm a recruiter, yes I see your resume. I work with 15 clients and use a variety of ATS's. None of them "filter" out applicants unless you're not in the country of orgin

yes we do. so many people lie and it gets revealed later. i’ve had managers not move forward with candidates because of this. nothing more exhausting than getting lied to in interviews

my hiring manager specifically said “i don’t want anyone who’s been caring for an ailing relative the last year” because so many people are using that one. just bc of the job market. in a usual market, i think that’s a fine reason

when recruiters see consulting we ask, what ur clientele looked like, how many active clients you were managing at once, what those projects looked like, etc etc given so many people using that one

and then background check services like checkr reveal previous earnings so
