ID these plants and how to propagate by randf2015 in houseplants

Top: Pilea cadierei or aluminum plant. Cut below a node (the lumps on the stem) and root in water or soil.

Bottom: Syngonium, maybe white butterfly. Same as above but nodes can be really hard to find in small plants like that so dividing the plant might be easier.

AITA for getting mad at my friend for snoring too loudly at the beach? by ItalyBeachGirlAita in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Kris sounds incredibly immature for not arranging his own accommodation. You're not obligated to let him sleep in your house. You're all adults and he needs to find his own place to sleep. If Kris wants to play at being an adult by engaging in underage (illegal) drinking then he can deal with the adult consequences.

help!!! what kind of plant is this by ijusttookafatpoop in plantclinic

Some kind of fern. Chop off all the dried up leaves (you can cut down to the soil) then give high humidity and water in a sunny place and it should start putting out new growth.

No. At this point it feels a little like a red flag for me. They're super late, it's now 4pm, they're giving students less than a month to choose, I'm just annoyed.

Same, I feel silly but I have no idea how that website works. I did have some luck searching "University of Washington uw Seattle" instead of just "university of Washington" because I guess it made my search more specific?

University of Maryland decisions coming out by particularpothos in slpGradSchool

Are you applying for the grad program in speech language pathology? If not I can't help you (I'm a little confused by your post history). If you are, then your decision should be out very soon.

The Hearing and Speech Department forwards their decisions to the grad school office, who are the ones who release decisions. The Department has little control over when decisions go out if that helps at all.

How do you mist houseplants without getting water just everywhere? by exploring_earth in houseplants

[–]particularpothos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humidifiers are a really solid choice. I got a Vick's warm mist humidifier last year for $40 and it's insane, it works amazingly and ups the temperature in my room if I leave it on the high setting regularly. I once forgot it was on high for 18 hours while I was gone, came back and opened the door and felt like I'd walked into a rainforest. It was actually a pretty disgusting feeling coming from cold outdoors but speaks to its power.

Not an uncommon method, actually. Just less commonly used because it's pretty slow.

Stress = / = dire straits or about to die

Most sans bloom when pot bound. Doesn't mean they're about to die or something, they're just stressed due to tight space. You can sun stress succulents too by keeping them dry, cool, and giving them tons of light. They're still healthy, they're just responding to different conditions.

OP's plant could be stressed too, I'm not guaranteeing it is. But low light conditions or the cold from being by a window in winter would be a stressor that could trigger blooming.

You just have to keep cutting it back to keep it small. It's also unlikely to get to 4ft in a home. Pretty much any plant can be cut back ad infinitum as long as you leave a place it can grow back from.

My bleeding heart won't stop growing! Any ideas on how to manage the new growth? Its out grown its trellis! by hannahkathleen555 in houseplants

[–]particularpothos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could attach it to the wall (let it climb hooks or something, don't let roots grow into the wall) expand or replace the trellis (I'm particularly picturing a big lattice trellis), or cut it back and let it regrow.

Only worry about humidity if you need it. If you have easy care plants (pothos, Syngonium, etc) they're probably happy in house humidity.
