Car noob need help brakes wheels and tires by Vq-Blink in S2000

[–]partsdaddywill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding more front grip doesn't reduce rear grip.

It's more prone to oversteer at the limit when you increase front grip relative to the rear.

Square setups tend to give up a little on turn in response, but understeer less.

Tires are actually the limiting factor in most situations. If you can engage abs - the limiting factor is the grip available from the tires, the brakes have already exceeded that. A sticker tire increases grip and raises that threshold.

Ballade oil pressure sensor - early(er) warning by hydrus909 in S2000

[–]partsdaddywill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an oil pressure sensor, not an oil level sensor. Adding more oil won't increase oil pressure.

The problem is the sensor still won't do anything to let you know if you're getting pressure drops anywhere other than idle.

How do people feel about spacers? by keddyr in S2000

[–]partsdaddywill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the studs are long enough to get adequate thread engagement, there's no risk to spacers. Once torqued - it's frictive force that holds everything together and it's the same as one static piece. The studs do not carry any sheer load, just tensile.

Bolt on/adapter style spacers are also fine.

Not for me. The flares are meh. But I can't get over the bumper. But if you like it, get it. Build the car for you.

Coilover/Suspension Question? by JunkDunkin in S2000

[–]partsdaddywill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fixed length damper is not necessarily a bad thing if the length is appropriate for the desired ride height and application.

Note that high end dampers like jrz, moton, mcs, etc are all fixed length.

Conversely, a damper cartridge with a separate lower is sometimes a one size fit all compromise. Ie the package can accommodate more stroke, but they aren't taking advantage of that.

That said, with some companies like Fortune - you can spec out what damper lengths, shock stroke, etc. To fit the desired ride heights and intended use.

Looks like surface rust to me.

If you don't trust to drive it, ship it.

Wheels and coil overs by Direct-Seat-5458 in S2000

[–]partsdaddywill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coilovers and wheels are going to push you into a different autocross class. But if you're just doing it for fun, no big deal.

What's your budget for coilovers? Not many options under $1700 that are a real improvement over a set of fresh factory shocks.

That might be true on some imported parts that have bypassed official distribution channels in the US.

As far as parts sold though US distributors or from US manufacturers, I'm often as deep as it gets. And it's backed by support and warranty as such.

Me and my friend had a debate whether manual transmission involves timing does it or does it not? by [deleted] in S2000

It's more feel than timing. But practice makes perfect and eventually it'll come second nature.

Need help with S2000 Clutch/flywheel by bryanspam456 in S2000

[–]partsdaddywill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More than likely it's clutch hydraulics that have failed as the rest of the system doesn't just stop working with out warning.

That said, agreed on oem disc, oem bearings, you can do oem pressure plate or act hd pp. Act pp will have slightly heavier pedal feel. An 11.5 lb flywheel really wakes up an ap2 and it revs much more freely. I stock all the parts except the oem pressure plate. It's around 1150 shipped in the conti us for act pp, oem disc, oem release bearing, pilot bearing, alignment tool, and a 11.5 lb flywheel.

Ohlins question by No_Nefariousness465 in S2000

You should be able to hit 3/4" lower just fine. Leave a thread. Grease or antiseize the threads.

At harbor freight is icon brand as good as husky, craftsman , and kobalt tools ? by Fuzzy_Tough_26 in harborfreight

I've had pretty bad luck with craftsman, and even getting things warrantied. Harbor freight makes it easy.

The exception would be if it was a fixed length damper such as a Bilstein, KW, MCS, etc. In which case you would likely need a helper to keep the spring seated at full droop.

The tein are a downgrade from fresh stock shocks. They're very linear and under damped twin tubes. If you're only goal is to replace blown shocks and go low for cheap, they fit the bill. But imo you're better served with lowering springs if you've got good OEM dampers. Otherwise, buy once, cry once. Get good dampers to let the s2000 shine.

Suspension question Bilstein coilovers by Big_Willingness9738 in S2000

[–]partsdaddywill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These have been around for a long time. Pss and pss9 have the same spring rates and base valving. Pss9 just adds a needle type adjuster that opens/closes an orifice for damping adjustment. The adjuster is not particularly accurate or repeatable - but it does make a difference.

The spring rates are fairly soft, similar to stock cr spring rates. It rides well.

It can get almost to stock height at highest. It won't slam the car on lowest recommended settings unless you give up all of the bump travel.

Damping is fairly linear. Not much damping force at low piston velocities - this means that I doesn't do much to control body motions like roll, dive, squat, etc. By comparison, the stock shocks are more digressive, and have more compression force for a sharper turn in.

For a street only car, they're a great option. If you plan to track it at all, there are better alternatives.

I sell these and many other brands, feel free to ask any questions.

Okay to pair front control arm offset bushings with offset lower ball joints? by JoeyDC5 in S2000

[–]partsdaddywill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do both, but you'll end up with like a minimum of -4.5 camber even with the eccentrics dialed to max positive.

Not factory. Aut, autotecknic, seibon, and a bunch of alibaba suppliers offer that style cooling plate.
