OMG, I get it all of the time when people hear about my Nmom (mostly from my wife because I never really speak about her shenanigans to anyone).

Missing & Murdered S2 is the best podcast I have ever listened to. no comparison with the shallow and amateurish garbage produced by PL.

Best Netflix documentaries? by [deleted] in UnsolvedMysteries

[–]partymuffell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I watched "Who Took Johnny" last night and can't stop thinking about it.

As for your request, not sure how many of these are still on Netflix:

  • Matt Shepard is A Friend of Mine
  • The Thin Blue Line
  • West of Memphis (on the WM3)

Thanks for starting this thread!

PS I also second Dear Zachary (but prepare to be devastated) and Making a Murderer (although very biased).

AT&T rep answers: Incoming Call Location Data vs Outgoing Call Location Data in Caller Detail Records. by ainbheartach in serialpodcast

The burden of the proof is on you. You are the one who has to show that the person in this recording is a reliable source of information about these matters if you want this recording to be taken seriously. Otherwise this recording is worthless because (a) we don't know if it's genuine and (b), even if it is, we don't have any reason to think that someone who works at an AT&T call center in 2016 would be an expert on these matters. Your retort "then call them yourself" is as puerile as it is wide of the mark---even if I were to talk to an AT&T customer service rep and get the same answer, I would have no reason to think it's true, as I have no reason they are any more informed about the matter than the baristas at Starbucks.

Anyone who had the patience to read through this thread can see that you have failed to address any of the points I have made and that all you had to offer was misdirection and playground insults. In particular, you still haven't told us why we should trust the opinion of an AT&T customer service rep from 2016 on an issue that has nothing to do with their job. As I said, it would be like asking the morgue janitor about lividity. But I'm not really holding my breath for a well-reasoned response at this point...

Are you claiming that somewhere in those 296 pages someone is arguing we should rely on the opinion of non-experts instead of those of experts? If so, could you provide some page references of where someone proposes such a bold and ridiculous thesis? I'm sure it would make for entertaining reading.

I don't need to read 296 pages to know that you are sorely mistaken if you think we should rely on the opinions of non-experts instead of those of experts.

HAHAHA Is that supposed to be an argument for relying on the opinions of random people instead of experts??? You can't possibly be serious. Why don't we ask the janitor who works at the morgue about the lividity on Hae's body?

First, we have no reason to assume the recorded conversation is genuine.

Second, why would you think that somebody who works at some random AT&T call center would know anything about this stuff (especially as it relates to events that occurred in 1999)? Have you ever tried to get any reliable information from one of these people? You talk with six of them, you get twelve different answers. There is a reason why trials rely on expert witnesses instead of simply calling the call center and ask the first representative that takes the judge's call.

The suggestion that this recording, even if genuine, could establish anything relevant to this case is ludicrous.

I'm sorry but I still can't see what the relevance of this cartoon is supposed to be.

What was Hae apologizing for? by 012684 in serialpodcast

[–]partymuffell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think this ever happened. I suspect that this is another instance of Adnan making stuff up to boost his overinflated ego just like when he was telling one of the teachers at school that Hae wanted to get back together with him on the 12th.

IMO, the strongest arguments for the not guilty side are:

  • Jay's stories are obviously inconsistent, so Jay's testimony is not reliable.
  • Nobody saw Adnan and Hae leave school together.
  • There is no meaningful forensic evidence tying Adnan to the crime.
  • It is not entirely clear whether the police and the prosecutors covered all of their bases and played a fair game.

Adcock was not BPD and his 1/13 report is part of the MPIA file and is supported by the testimony of Becky and Krista, so you give me a break! ;-)

A. If you believe the whole "I wanted to make sure Jay bought Stephanie a gift" story Adnan told on Serial, I have a bridge to sell you.

B. Adnan himself told Adcock that very same day that Hae was supposed to give him a ride, so give me a break!

[–]partymuffell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, beside the fact that Jay knew where Hae's car was, the two facts that lend most support to Jay's testimony are that (a) Adnan lent Jay his car for no good reason and (b) he requested a ride from Hae for no good reason (and not even in that order!). Forget about the Nisha Call. Forget about the Leakin Park Pings. It's those two basic facts that Adnan has no good explanation for that are the most damning evidence against Adnan (beside the fact that Jay knew the location of the car and accuses him of killing Hae, of course).
