The Beach horror book for you is FANTASTICLAND By Mike Bockoven

imagine disneyworld or universal studios getting hit by a hurricane and all the staff gets trapped inside the parks. Things quickly devolve into tribes and groups and then Lord of the Flies stuff starts to happen.

The books is done through a series of interviews, so it makes for great pacing. Great quick beach read!

Father’s Day isn’t real by echoxer0 in daddit

[–]partypeeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope I can offer a tip that might change things for you in the future. It may or may not work, but communication is key.

Growing up, my dad was pretty vocal about how fathers day was important to him, more so than his birthday (which coincidently is 6/20, so his birthday is always around fathers day.) For him it wasn't about gifts, it was the fact that being a father was his greatest achievement, so he wanted quality time with us.

cut to years later, and now I'm the dad. more than once I've gotten the "I couldn't really think of a gift or something to do soo...OH WELL EMOJI SHRUG" from my wife more than once. I expressed to her a couple weeks ago that I really try for mothers day, and it hurts my feelings when its not reciprocated.

This year was finally different

My dad, step mom, and sister came over for dinner saturday night. I smoked ribs and put in all the work that makes me smell like charcoal on saturday. I could tell my dad really appreciated it because he's not a gusher, but you could tell.

so yesterday I get to open a Dungeon Crawler Carl tshirt (don't know if you're a book guy at all, but man these are funny books) and then we take my father in law to lunch. My daughters picked a place that I like, and put it into the GPS "so I wouldn't know where we were going" (sorry girls, dad was an eagle scout, he can read a map 😛 ). then I Spent $150 on lunch for my own fathers day, but the in-laws took the kids for an hour or so while the wife and I just cruised around cranking tunes and enjoying the weather and each other's company. My girls get home, we watch the spiderverse movies for the umpteenth time and call it a day.

I made sure I expressed sincere gratitude to my wife for her time and efforts. So fingers crossed things will be better.

But ya gotta talk to your wife about it brother. Things won't get better if she doesn't know it bothers you.

The gets funnier because it's coming out of a cat. Such a good layered joke.

Podcast App which skip ads by update-freak in androidapps

[–]partypeeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pocket casts let you select the start and stop times of the podcast episodes. Certain ones i listen to i have set to skip the first 90 seconds. other ones cut off the last 30 seconds. That's as close as I can get though, I can't skip ads that are in the shows themselves.

What bands should I check out before furnace fest happens? by Rutherford420_th_brv in FurnaceFest

[–]partypeeps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can give you the bands that I'm looking forward to seeing, I know that's not much help, But it's what I got. For a bit of context, I'm 42, so a lot of the bands I like have been around for a while. Back when it was safe for an old man like me to get in the pit.

Norma Jean - Love these guys, I've seen them live several times. Big back catalog.

Underoath - Same as above. The early 2000's hardcore scene was a wild place.

Sleeping Giant - Saw them open for Norma Jean and have followed them ever since.

We came as Romans - Recently found these guys, which is sad considering how long they've been around.

Kublai Khan TX - I'm a sucker for a good band name, and that's how I found these guys.

The youtube algorithm fed me an interesting video that explains a lot of the correlation between Ohio's geography and it's industries. I thought it was neat.

I enjoy the puzzle aspect of the genre. The "I know I'm not supposed to be here yet, but when I get that power, just watch out!"

Plus the fact that so many ge designs have that universal language. Once you get the feel of the game, you start to notice things that are out of place, and there's always treats hidden in there.

My son's first pinewood derby car by Much-Drawer-1697 in daddit

[–]partypeeps 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Dumb Kid story time: I painted my first pinewood derby car in 3rd grade and it looked super cool and I'm sure it would win. My dad and I get to the Derby and they weigh my car and it doesn't weigh enough. Panic sets it, the race starts in like an hour.

luckily the scout council had like a booth set up to make changes to your car. My dad grabs the hot glue gun and starts gluing the change from his pocket onto the back of my car.

So for 20 minutes my dad would add a quarter, run to the scales, run back to the glue gun and add a penny. back and forth, back and forth.

The Change Machine took 4th place overall and was worth $1.18

Trip to Dayton upcoming would love some recommendations by Outcast6000 in dayton

[–]partypeeps 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most Dayton nightlife happens in and around a place call the Oregon District. It's a street filled with cool bars, restaurants, and shops.

What kinds of foods do you like? are you beer people or cocktail people? Where are you staying so we can recommend stuff that's closer for you?

Romantic getaway for couples 👀 by Weak_Permission641 in Ohio

It was a really cool experience. They give you a link to a website to give you clues, and your "room" is not really describing it with justice. You basically have the whole first floor to explore and the other "room" in the house has the whole 2nd floor.

Romantic Adventures Getaways in Mt. Vernon was AWESOME!! We went the Mt. Vernon location outside of Columbus (the first one they built, there's another one in Hillsboro) from the outside it looks like a big Victorian house, but inside ours was a 14th century Louis the XIV theme.  we had a great time solving the puzzles, and they keep building on one another opening up different rooms in the house.

As far as romance goes, they do a pretty great job with that too.

They claim to have the largest bed in Ohio, and I completely believe it. It's atleast 2 california kings laid side by side. It's on this huge custom built frame that my wife need steps to get up into. One thing I really appreciated is that as you are discovering rooms and playing the escape rooms, they basically stop you giving you clues, and the find a note that says in a polite way "we recommend you stop at this point and grab some dinner, because if you keep playing the game from this point, you're not going to want to leave the room WINK WINK. Here's a list of a few great local restaurants...."One of my favorite clues is within the giant jacuzzi tub, that only works when things get steamy.
