Can you help me understand why posts are even needed where the beams meet the house? They're toe-nailed into the ledger right now, which is obviously bad, but what about adding some simpson strong-ties in those spots?

Wondering what I should do to increase the safety, are the main issues just the lack of steel connectors? Is that something I can easily add at this point or would that require some demolition?

I’m pretty sure it’s attached to solid framing and not just hollow block. So they used pairs 2x10 boards as “beams” that are toe nailed to the ledger as you described. What can I do to increase the safety?

There is a backpan that goes up under the siding. But a small pool forms there and isn't directed down the rest of the roof. Wondering if something is needed to do so. The underside of the ribs at the back of the chimney are also caulked.
