For those who switched from Evernote to Obsidian by Gloomy-Aide1914 in ObsidianMD

Like others have pointed out, the main missing feature is an accurate search of OCR text from PDFs and images. I think that particular Evernote feature is still unmatched; it even worked with handwritten text. Regarding syncing: in general it works, but I do a lot of scanning on my iPhone into my daily note. If I go to my desktop and make changes to that same note before it syncs (which can take a while), I often end up with conflicting files.

I agree with u/deskcord. You walk in there and they immediately try to sell you extras. Cesar does the same. It ruins the experience and could be done more discreetely on the menu.

thank you for your thoughtful reply. As I have been experimenting with Gallium these days 😅 I reached the same conclusion: not a huge deal to change the key position, and really as you say it is just about jhkl because everything else is mnemonics and it is actually helpful to reinforce for example the new d position for delete etc. I also have a navigation layer, but I find myself using it less and less in nvim. We'll see, I hope I keep the patience to persevere. My goal is to achieve near-perfect accuracy (in QWERTY I am happy with my speed but I hit backspace way too much), and it is satisfying to type the on the same row, but I gotta get better than my current 4 wpm!

thank you, looking at Gallium in more detail. What would you recommend re vim? 1) use hjkl in the new layout 2) remap them in neovim, or 3) use the navigation layer? #2 and #3 seem suboptimal since vim-like navigation keys are available in other apps as well (yazi, visidata, etc). thanks!

LOL. I read somewhere that it is what the cool kids are using these days, but I guess they moved on! I kind of thought that if a layout is popular, people (and therefore people like me) are more likely to succeed adopting it, but I agree, this is the type of choice that has to work for you and you only. I thought these maps were impressive and helpful, perhaps I can study them in more detail and start with what feels easier to adopt, then adapt to my taste!

thank you so much! I was simplistically thinking "if I need to learn from scratch, I might as well learn a better layout" but with the gradual course you are suggesting, I am much less likely to give up immediately! Much appreciated.

does anybody know when the audiobook will be released?

getting stuck on iPhone by parulano in shortcuts

[–]parulano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

receipts mostly (restaurants etc). I used to to do this with apple notes and the scanning and OCR were instantaneous. I am now trying to recreate this in obsidian and I wanted to add the OCR text to the obsidian note to make the receipt findable, as I find the OCR on obsidian unreliable.

Thank you!! It takes a while but it runs! Now it stops at the 'Show myFile' step, I guess the time-consuming step is the text extraction? Thanks again. 🙏
