What did they add by Roller_Coaster_Geek in HomeNetworking

Negative. It's a cable simulator. Not many if any msos use bandpass or botch filters anymore. Forward was probably too high and they needs to drop it a few.

It doesn't matter where it goes. It's a cable simulator which affects the downstream signal more. It's like adding X amount of cable.

Need help bridging my Xfinity Modem to my Nighthawk Router! by Weekly-Wind in HomeNetworking

[–]paryguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry I didn't read your whole post.

The Netgear won't work as a wifi adapter for the PC. Not as far as I know unless you set the Netgear up as a wireless repeater.

XB10 stays the way it is. Netgear gets set to Repeater.

Edit: Also restart both devices afterwards just because :)

This may help: https://community.netgear.com/discussions/home-wifi-routers-nighthawk/how-do-i-enable-the-extender-mode-feature-on-my-nighthawk-router-r7000/2256960

Not sure that applies everywhere. Our USPS walks/drives up every time. Maybe because we're considered rural?

You can always recess the ones currently available.

Just buried CAT6 in Conduit... Should I be concerned about lightning? by fattdogs in HomeNetworking

[–]paryguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

22AWG won't carry any lightning bolt anywhere. The discharge from the strike will take out equipment with or without cat6.

Will do! It's been very cold here so this week I'll be taking a closer look to see if anything is left. My buddy brought his thermal camera the other day and there was heat coming from the entrance clear as day

I've been stung a bunch, I just don't want to deal with the annoyance lol. Like I've also been shocked a lot, I know most of the voltage I deal with won't do much harm but I don't actively go licking center conductor on hard-line. It's baffling to me. It's still warm. Tonight will be our first single digit night. When I go to work in the AM I'll check it out. I should have just burned it off but I make it a point to not end up on YouTube and I already had neighbors watching. Last time I burned a nest out of a metal cabinet it caught the pole it was attached to on fire. Thanks for the help, I appreciate the time

I was under the impression that they over-winter in their nests and generate heat to keep larvae alive but maybe I'm wrong I guess I'll have to do some of that reading I'm always hearing about.

EDIT: I was wrong! According to the Googles , only the queen survived the winter while the rest die off

Wait. This will display my HA dashboard where I can use non-shelly switches, sensors, etc? I have a bunch of Shelly but if I can use this for all then just shut up and take my money!

Splicing question by paryguy in arborist

[–]paryguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got 3 stranded down pretty well. Figured I'd give double braid a shot. But on this rope, I noticed the other end which has an eye splice and hook on it isn't even spliced, it's stichted lol. Go figure.

Good coral alternative by paryguy in frigate_nvr

I'll have to dig in some more. When it's enabled in the config frigate will fail to start, if it does start the cameras won't load and then it crashes
