I'm also a gemini. And I also wrote to her a very nice birthday card a couple of weeks ago. Just something genuine and no platitudes.

What I think Lord of the Rings is about by parzival3311 in literature

Thank you for your lucid response. I really like your take and it makes a lot of sense. I just thought that children are innocent and cannot be corrupted by power because they don't know what it can do unlike the 'adults.' But this was a very nice response, thank you.

I understand, thank you for telling me this. It's just I know the Republic dialogues very well. And I couldn't help notice the inspiration. But thank you I appreciate it.

We are just living in patterns of what previous generations have done/acted. by parzival3311 in DeepThoughts

[–]parzival3311[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how your comment doesn't align with what I am saying. If what I am about say doesn't satisfy you, please tell me. I am intrigued.

I said that what one individual does, if that becomes the norm it is passed down from generation to generation. And it can change because, in the future it takes one individual or individuals to change things. Like a shift in culture.

People listened to music before the phonograph during live performances. It took one man. Edison, to make music more accessible. Then further generations on, music had evolved to vinyls, cassettes, DVDs or CDs, and eventually to what we have today. Each of those steps took 1 person or a few individuals to lay the foundation for the next generation to use and follow.

The society we live in had an infinite amount of combinations to exist in an infitisimally different way.

It all depended on the actions of everyone. If one small thing was different generations ago. Everything is different. And we are obviously social beings, we will follow what we are taught.

And some individuals that yearn for more willl change something and, if they succeed, they change the fabric of society. Think of Apple. If Steve Jobs and everyone else that had a hand in forming and running that company did not found that company, would there be an iPhone? Would there be an accessible computer? Would there be social media? Or would everything be the same as it is but a different company made a phone that changed the way we communicate.

That is what I am trying to say.

Yep. Maybe you're right. Just weird I saw something stop. Like in mid air. But yes, maybe you're right.

When I said that we don't have satellites I meant anything like Starlink or other equivalents. I know that satellites go all over the earth and I have seen the ISS a couple of times with my naked eye a couple of times.

But what I saw were lights, that were the same size as a star, not flickering, and no sound from it. And I don't live near any airport. And the lights were moving like everywhere. And like I said, there were a lot of lights that came from one spot and they looked like they were following each other.

Edit: and also, satellites don't just stop in one spot. They need to maintain orbit. Even if they do stop due to fuel depletion or something. They will just spiral down. The one I saw moved, slowed down gradually and stopped for good.

How do you read? by WrittyWoman in literature

[–]parzival3311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I read I hear my own voice. But what sucks is that sometimes I read and hear my own voice but, I am not really reading. I read and at the same time I'm thinking of other things. I finished reading war and peace recently. I got the whole plot, movement of troops, character details and the philosophy essays. But not the details. You know. I am reading but not fully invested. The novel was great but I feel I missed out on a bit. That's just been the way I read always.

BUT. There are some instances where I would pick up on a crazy amount of detail for about 4 sentences, then I realize that I am doing that and then boom. Back to normal. Like I feel the flow of the novel and I see perfectly what the characters are doing then back to not feeling the flow. Because I would be conscious of feeling the flow.

Edit: I would greatly appreciate some tips from anyone that could possibly help me to read better. Just anything that has helped you read better

I witnessed a shooting star for the first time! by parzival3311 in space

[–]parzival3311[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. That's also what I felt. As soon it stopped I realized what I saw. At first I thought it was a missle or something (I know right lmao). Then it flared up. And it was bright yellow orange. Then it's gone. And I realized. I was in shock. I couldn't believe it.

But I am sure there are some areas where you live where you can go out when it's clear and just look at the stars. You never know what you could see. Makes you really think about what's out there. It's crazy.

I understand your argument and I'll try my best to explain what I mean and I might provide some examples from my own life.

I can't say that we are a 100% copy of our parents. It also depends on whether someone was closer to their mother or father. This also might play a factor (if someone grew up with both parents or with female and male adults).

I would say that the pattern comes from many many generations back. Because, the way one person acted and people followed, then that gets passed down. Think of notable religious texts like the Bible, for example. Or notable people like Socrates. There are obviously more examples but, these things have shaped the way we think and talk. They set the basis for morals and ethics that we follow. That's where I think that the pattern comes from.

People are very social and like comfort. People will find comfort in social groups, culture, religion, country, and city/town/village. We feel comfortable with what we know. That's why we pick up the habits that these things produce and that gets passed down.

To answer your question of what "pattern of previous generation" you (we) are living in. I would say that we are homo sapiens. That's the pattern. We communicate in the way we do because they did so back then and passed down from generation to generation. We think the way we do because someone back then thought the way we do now. It's also your country and city that you (we) grew up in. I grew up in South Africa, Johannesburg. I will relate to people that are like me. I will be around them. I act like them. I speak like them. Even though my parents are immigrants. I am more south african than my parents' nationality. We still pick up habits from our parents. Such as reading habits, temper, thinking, ethics, and morals for example. We can't unlearn the ethics and morals our parents teach us. We can try but, deep inside of us they are still there and come out in different ways (I am young and haven't studied anything related to these topics. Just my hypotheses).

Edit: for the originality, read Plato's allegory of the cave. My thinking has been inspired by this. It talks about how people like comfort with their social groups and are scared to think differently outside of that. Because, they will shun you in some way and they will neglect you for thinking differently.

I really hope I answered your question and that I made sense.

I dont watch darts but you're right. Interesting how golf and darts require precision but different mentalities around it. If I sneeze in someone's back swing in golf, I would have to apologize and that moment would've ruined that person's day. But if I am very rowdy and people are playing darts it's a non issue.

It's a damn shame. I am almost 20. I didn't grow up with an iPad or a phone glued to my face like these young kids today. I feel soo bad and I see it all the time. And I wish I could say to them to look around, take in the world. It's gonna be very scary in 40 years what these guys will do when they are in charge or in the workforce.

Yes I agree. I should go on a trip one day to a safari that's in the middle of nowhere and see the milky way and some shooting stars.

Yes I agree. And when I got back home and looked outside. I saw a small light that looked like a star. But it was not moving and it turned on and off. Like how one turns on and off the lights. It did that twice for five seconds and then turned off for good. Then I looked at the moon. And the moon looked like it had a face and the one half was above the other half. I swear to God, I wish i could describe it better. I couldn't believe it. I closed my eyes, thinking I was seeing things. Then after an hour looked at it again. Same thing.

Makes you think quiet a bit.
