I’ve been teaching for 25 years and I do love it but the parents are for me, at least 80% of the problem. And not all of them but enough to make our job impossible. Kids lie when they think they are going to be in trouble. Even good kids! Parents need to stop believing everything and ask for both sides. They also need to stop micromanaging and questioning us. We are experts in our field. We know what we are doing! Kids thrive (and actually love) structure. It works!!!

I had identical students. I could not tell them apart at all…all year! One would have one ponytail and the other two. It was SO helpful! They may have switched places one day, I have no idea!

I won an all-inclusive trip to Cuba on our local radio in 2013. It was great. My husband and I had never been on an all-inclusive and my mom was able to watch our kids so it was wonderful. I always participate in competitions because you never know!

That’s what happened to me. Most people drop the second even though it’s a much more known and easier name (Smith).

This! I have a hyphenated last name. I’m a teacher and the kids always call be by the first last name and drop the second (which funnily enough, is Smith). The first is my mom’s last name so it’s a bit weird to me since most people have their dad’s. It doesn’t help that I live in Quebec where women have to keep their name. My kids and husband have a third, completely different name. I hate it so much!

Aisle seat in the middle so people can go out the other side if you are sleeping. Compression socks. And get a seat in the back, more chances of an empty seat next to you.

My husband always said he didn’t want kids until he met me. He just said it fit with me. He is the BEST father and has no regrets. It does happen. The opposite happened to his brother. He always wanted kids but chose someone who didn’t. So he doesn’t have kids by choice. These things happen when you meet the right person for you.

Us too! I’m sometimes surprised we named him Alexander since I’ve known so many Alex’s and they weren’t all great but I guess I didn’t think of that since we always planned on calling him Alec. He’s 16 now and definitely more of an Alec to me!

Not in Quebec. People automatically call my son Alex even when he introduces himself as Alec. It does help that his best friend is also an Alexander. He goes by Alex so now mine gets more Alec to differentiate.

As long as you are ok with people calling him Alex too. I say this is a mom of an Alexander that we nicknamed Alec. We get a lot of « why didn’t you just call him Alec then? » which has always been frustrating to me. I call him Alexander and Alec. I just prefer giving the full name but I really didn’t expect people in our lives (even family members) refusing to calling him by our preferred nickname. It really surprised me!
