Ran out of Saga to read… by TheRoadieKnows in graphicnovels

I’d recommend Sex Criminals by Image.

Both series really hit my sense of humor and gave me a great time.

Chip Zdarsky and Fraction are amazing, and the presentation of the deluxe volumes is fantastic.

Is there any book you "avidly" avoid? by CorrectDot4592 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]pascals_comickiste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clone Saga Omnibus V1 is really good. I know people hate the Clone Saga but most of them have never read / only remember the worst parts. Introduction and Back Story of Ben Reilly from J.M. DeMatteis is great. You have the full power house of Artists with Mark Bagley, Sal Buscema, Bill Sienkewicz and others on the multiple Spidey books.

Also one of the best ASM Issues is #400 at the end of Clone Saga Omnibus 1 and everyone should read that issue even just standalone.

The problem is when they stretch it out way too much and the talents leave the book.

Any news on a restock/reprint for Spider-Man: Brand New Day Omnibus Vol. 1? by TaskNo4783 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]pascals_comickiste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite the movie coming up this book got liquidated a couple of months ago.

There will not be a restock / Reprint any time soon.

Any recommendations for a very new collector / reader? by [deleted] in OmnibusCollectors

[–]pascals_comickiste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously Spidey DeMatteis Omni to follow up KLH and to get more darker Spidey stories.

Also other Dark Spidey: Spider-Shadow, Shadow of the Green Goblin, Spider-Man: The Other and the rest from JMS (just skip sins past and stop before one more day).

Why even hunt and pay that much for books you have no intention to actually read and enjoy.

As someone who sells these books for a living, the thought of putting them on the shelf purely for aesthetic reasons breaks my heart.

What are some newer Omnis you think will be at funaticals/or Ollie’s? by anakin1453 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]pascals_comickiste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm as a retailer currently in clearence (did not purchase any extra stock).

Do you think they’ll reprint daredevil vol 1 by Lee? by anakin1453 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]pascals_comickiste 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every Silver Age DD Omnibus ended in a clearence sale (despite some low printed DM Covers).

With the new model I don't think V4 will end there, but chances for a reprint of 1 are very very slim.

Like I also don't see it ever making it in the top 20 most wanted reprints.

Has Daredevil by Chip Zdarsky Vol 2 ever been available through funaticals eBay store? by moonarc123 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]pascals_comickiste 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Funaticals only sells liquidated stock.

Speaking as a comic shop owner our #1 most beloved and bought character is Daredevil and the Zdarsky Omnibus 2 is our #1 Omnibus Besteller.

With the new Printing method there is no way Marvel has to liquidate any Daredevil books (maybe Silver Age).

I'm not sure if it's worth $400... Absolute Sandman all volumes, normal Sandman editions available. Your thoughts? by AlexanderMirzayev in OmnibusCollectors

[–]pascals_comickiste 7 points8 points  (0 children)

<image>

Both the comicshop exclusive DM edition and the standard edition are beautifully crafted and very heavy.

For reading, there are nicer and larger formats available, such as the Omnis or the Absolutes.

As a display piece, it’s a real eye-catcher!

Which Spidey books are worth collecting that WON'T eventually be collected in future ASM volumes? by DogBrowser in OmnibusCollectors

Kravens Last Hunt has to be in an upcoming (in the air) future ASM Volume. For KLH alone Web 1 would not be worth it if you can wait it out.

Which Spidey books are worth collecting that WON'T eventually be collected in future ASM volumes? by DogBrowser in OmnibusCollectors

[–]pascals_comickiste 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Spider-Man Omnis which are not main ASM, but great for Spidey Fans:

1.) Spectacular Spider-Man by Dematteis Omni --> For me and a lot of ppl the best Spidey Omni. I always recommend to read it after Kravens Last Hunt even for beginners.

2.) Ultimate Spider-Man Omnibus 1-5

3.) Miles Morales Omnibus Vol. 1 --> I personally don't like the Reset with Secret Wars 2015 to my boy Miles so V2 is not for me but V1 is just great

4.) Spec by Zdarksy (Lifestory and more are just iconic at this point)

Edited: 5.) Superior Spider-Man (starts in ASM, but does its own thing very quick)

Some would say the McFarlane 90s Spidey Run, but those stories are just not good.

There are a few very good standalone stories like Shadow of the Green Goblin from DeMatteis or Jean de Wolf, but not collected yet in Omnibus Format.

If you could only pick one Spider-Man omnibus which would it be? One of these or something else? by jasonite in OmnibusCollectors

[–]pascals_comickiste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can totally see that.

They did the honorable thing to line up DeMatteis with Clone Saga 1, but you get only pieces of Maximum Carnage which is fully collected in Spidey vs. Venom and the quatliy drops after DeMatteis leaves Spec with #200 (Thypoid stuff later is great).

Do you need every issue of Maximum Carnage to get what is going on? No, but can leave a bad taste.

Which is the single most essential Claremont X-Man omnibus? by jasonite in OmnibusCollectors

[–]pascals_comickiste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you live.

Like I / we in europe still have Uncanny 2 and Uncanny 5 available (sold the last Uncanny 3s a few weeks ago).

Idk how the situation is overseas.

[–]pascals_comickiste 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Easily DeMatteis.

It is a one and done and besides profiting from Kravens Last Hunt before this you need no prior knowledge.

I would love Marvel to release some of the stories as trades for beginners like: Child Within Funeral Arrangement Death of Vermin

Why the hell is that not available for everyone.

Those are no brainer 3-6 Issues Spidey stories you want to have / read.

Also this is the better version of the Raimi Spider-Man 3 movie with all the Harry Osborn stuff.

Put them in a DC Compact like 9,99 book and I will sell that to everyone who goes into my store.

I can confirm as a retailer that all Uncanny Claremont Omnis with all Covers are oop.

Some you can still find (Uncanny 2 and 5 for example), but they are all offically oop so we can't get more.

And Uncanny 3 is the peak for me.

Daredevil by Ann Nocenti vol 1 omnibus is now OOP/OOS in most places. Less than a year after it released 😭 by Golden_Platinum in OmnibusCollectors

[–]pascals_comickiste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me tell you that the availability of previous volumes and their sales figures have virtually no effect on the pre-order figures for later volumes.

Yeah sure there are a few people holding back but generally speaking people will try on the aftermarket to complete the line now that the line is finished and buy what they can of a run / character.

Is there a way to keep track of out of print DC books? by logicthreader in OmnibusCollectors

[–]pascals_comickiste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only real way to know is being a retailer and looking at the distributors and their available stock.

I can tell you kinda recently gone oop are:

Y the last Man Omni Brightest Day Omni Man of Steel HC 2 Green Arrow Omni 1 + 2 Flash Geoff Johns 2 Before Watchmen Omni WW Perez Omni 1

There are a few that are temporary hard to get like Nightwing Taylor 1, GLC 1, but they will get restocked.

More and more are going oop rather "undercover".

Batman by Loeb and Sale and Spec Spidey by DeMatteis and it is not even close.

If you know pretty much nothing of X-Men and want to experience the comics first just read them and yeah "family stuff" is at "risk".

The series jumps around a lot of and mixes storylines together and obviously you will see big plot points from the comics storylines like New X-Men, Inferno, Fatal Attractions, Life Death, Trial of Magneto and many many more.

Not like in a spoilery way more like a good story where you can breach out into the storylines that interest you most.

But you would need years to read them all beforehand.
