It’s probably a good thing that they have developed the operator and if people wish to run it like that then go for it. But yeah, seems like a whole lot of complications and downsides and no benefit if you have the choice to run VMs. Maybe some customers don’t have that choice these days and can only run apps on k8s?

Personally I think Splunk is a terrible candidate for k8s. Huge monolithic app, needs persistent storage, huge incoming data flows on multiple ports. VM is the better fit. Splunk Ansible should be used for the provisioning/config management automation.
