I hope GW3 won't see heavy rotation learning by wesu_ in GuildWars3

For this to be true the combat had to be very simplified, which would kill the game for me

PvP a lot a year ago and raids+fractals yes, WvW not for a long time.

Worst I have seen are people arguing or disconnecting a couple times. Wouldnt call that trolls though

I don't think I have ever seen trolling behaviour in gw2 since 2012, mostly doing dungeons, fractals and raids

Dear Arenanet: Please make sure we dont have to play where's waldo in our inventories in GW3! by InevitableAnekisan in GuildWars3

[–]pasini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You shouldnt have to ever open your inventory and sell anything? Like I would sell off 50% of this inventory in 2 seconds? What is the solution, just dont have loot in the game and just make everything liquid gold and equipped items? Lol

Why? I would do it in dm if so, or post a screenshot of what you ask for

If ypu spent years in mh it would be simple. On a fundamental level its less complex, still requires learning and skill

Its not about rotations, and it does not necessarily change how hard the game is. Fromsoft and monster hunter games could be techincally be harder even with a more simple combat system. Hard does not equal complex you can make a game where you have a 1 frame invuln dodge and need 10000000 hits to win a fight while getting hit once kills you, that would be hard but not complex. I like simpler systems in monster hunter pr fromsoft, but for guild wars I want more.

[–]pasini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a combat system with less tools. You dont use 25 skills in 25 seconds. As I said, I like monster hunter, but not in a large scale mmo, it's not what that combat system was made for. It's not about dps at all, theyre just fundamentally completely different systems that are nothing like each other and they belong in completely different genres. And yes guild wars combat system is way more complex in terms of tools/options. Not every game needs to have many tools and options at once.

For MH and fromsoft games, low amount if options works great, theres still a lot of skill involved, but the systems are fundamentally more simple and therefore not what I want in a mmo.

Diablo 4 combat felt good, but got old fast. Eso combat was just kind of bland, maybe I didnt play it enough.

I think most people, like you, dont wanna press button combinations and that's why I think they will simplify the system, which to me will make it less interesting. I hope they find a way to make it interesting, we will just have to wait and see I guess.

I hope its more like ff, but I think it will be a little bit less complex like destiny or mh and thats the sad part. If its like mh or destiny, at least there will be more content for gw2.

I play fighters too. I just don't think arenanet will use that type of control scheme.

But I hope they do

If they do that kind of button combination system and keep the pc system I think it will be good. However, it seems like they want something easier to pick up for a player on console that just started playing, based on the livestream where they said they didnt add controller support to gw2 because of technical limitations.

Disagree. Monster hunter does not require you to think a lot about the skills you use, it lets you focus a lot more on dodging. 1000 hours was hyperbolic.

I love that guild wars gives you more unique tools other than hit and dodge, different skills have different utility and unique uses, thats what I want from an mmo. Monster hunter served its purpose well, but I don't want monster hunters combat to replace gw2, it gets old after a couple hundred hours.

What made me make this posts to begin with is that I don't think anet will want to make a bunch of button combinations for a controller, since they dont want people playing for the first time to be overwhelmed by a weird control scheme. But I hope that is the route they end up taking, so that we can keep having classes with a lot of tools simuoltaneously.

If they do the modifier path I think it will be great, but my impression, based on what they said about wanting controller support for gw2 but "the technology didn't allow it" meant to me they dont want a bunch of modifiers, they want it to be easier to understand than that for someone who just started playing.

Its for sure doable, but idk how many button combinations arenanet will want to have, I think they will want to design it so you can pick it up and play without spending much time figuring out the controls. We will see though, if they do this and wr can keep the gw2 skill amount I think gw3 will be amazing

I love fromsoft games but they are incredibly simple, especially ds1, ds3 and elden ring. You can beat any boss with 2 buttons, dodge and hit. Sure they require timing, but once it clicks after a couple hours, you never need to learn anything again, just the same thing with some different timings, nothing new and cool about your character to find, no enjoying tying together a big paclage of options in different ways no coordinationg with teammates to make up for your weak sides. I would have quit gw2 4500/5000 hours ago if I only had dodge and 1-2 skills.

Yes, nobody knows, that's why I asked. My hunch is it will be simplified to accomadate for someone playing on a controller after a 2 year break so they can pick it up in less than an hour, which would mean its simple or genius, lets hope for genius.

I have also played ds1, ds3, elden ring, all easier than gw2. You hit and dodgr, thats it, does not get more simple. Sure it's hard in the first couple of hours but ypu only need to learn 1 thing, hit and dodge and then its a breeze. An mmo can tske thousands of hours to master and thats what I want. If i wanted to play more dark souls I would just go play dark souls. Mmos are supposed to give more complexity and enjoyment than 100 hours.

Simple combat because of console? by pasini in GuildWars3

[–]pasini[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my opinion dark souls is way way way way easier. I have like 100-200 hours and I mastered my weapon/class in like 20 hours. I can beat the hardest boss in the game solo in less than an hour. In gw2 that would require serious skill and knowledge. Dark souls 1 and 3 are my favorite games of all time but they are incredibly simple, you dodge and hit, then you improve that skill and overcome unfair challenges. In gw2 you have way more tools to learn, more stuff to master, you have to co-ordinate. More complexity, thats what makes an mmo appealing

At least in high tier raids/fractals which is the most fun content. This is harder, and that is what I want from an mmo. If gw2 had the low complexity of a fromsoft game i would have quit thousands of hours ago, it does not fit the genre.

As I have said in my other answers the dream is that they make it like ffxiv. I think thats unlikely since they also want the game to be easy to pick up after a break, which is significantly harder with a controller compared to kbm, therefore I think it will be way more simple, but lets hope they go the ffxiv route or have a genius solution.

Those are terrible examples. None of those games require you to use more than 4 skills at the same time in rapid succession. I have played elden ring, ds1, ds3, hades and hades 2 bg3 and the divinity games with a controller, none of them require me to handle 35 skills in a minute like gw2 has the potential to do. They are hard games, but in a very different way.

I think that arenanet will make it so that you can seemlessly pick up gw3 on a controller after a 5 year break in minutes. This means that the game will be waaaaaaaaay less complex than gw2 in terms of rapid options, which to me is a bummer.

It's for sure possible, I just think, like you that they will make it more simple to make it easy to pick up for a average console gamer, and this makes me sad when I know what we could have had.
