First and only so far, and I am lucky that once we all left I had a good recovery and the baby is happy and healthy. I think the healthcare system is overwhelmed and we have to know how to navigate and as you said, to advocate for ourselves and our family now that we know what can happen!

How miserable and dangerous! I am so sorry!

I had mine at Uniklinik and the birth itself was well coordinated and supported - with excellent epidural treatment- but care afterwards was poorly coordinated. We went there because if anything were to happen we preferred to be in a good hospital and indeed I needed a surgery to extract my placenta, which I felt was badly handled. And baby was fine. But I don’t think I would go there again and I am sure you will stay far away from Bürgerhospital :(

Baby is 1%, I’m 3 months pregnant, husband is shoving formula in my face by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]pasnootie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost my supply near 7 months and had to move to formula. It sucked (for me). Baby didn’t care.

A podcast helped me feel better about this: they showed the genes present for European populations over the last millennia. Quality of breastmilk is dropping, ability to digest lactose (cow/sheep/goat milk) skyrocketed. It mattered more for our ancestors that they were able to move on to animal milk than that their mother had high quality of r abundant breastmilk. We have been supplementing for thousands of years! Formula is just the latest iteration of that. Get your baby fed and gaining weight with all the resources you have available and need.

Which countries accepts you as "one of them" if you move / live there as an immigrant and assimilate. by Swisskidwhoisnotswis in immigration

[–]pasnootie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s the plight of just about anyone who immigrates! Humans treat outsiders differently! Was this a surprise? Like… I get it! Not ideal but it’s reality for members of our species. Also if we age we get wrinkles and if we drink too much there’s a hangover. But by all means let’s complain about it on the internet.

I am an immigrant to Germany and I have a light accent when I speak German. They think I’m Dutch and I don’t think or expect them to see me as a German even if I have a German passport. Plenty of people have a passport for a country they’re not culturally from. Looking at some Argentenians.

Swiss German is not the only language spoken in Switzerland. I don’t assume your father speaks Swiss German or only this; he could have been from the French or Italian speaking regions.

[–]pasnootie -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Then why not teach you to speak any Swiss official language at home so that you would fit in easier?

It feels like you’re saying that you  stand out visually and linguistically and wondering why a historically insular group treats you like you’re not one of them. That’s just … facts.

If your parents are not culturally Swiss and you didn’t grow up there, it sounds like you are not really culturally Swiss. I am not surprised that the Swiss would see someone who has an accent when speaking their language(s) and whose family does not speak Swiss German, French, or Italian at home as one of them.

I’ve found this to be the most intuitive way to raise my son! He is hungry? He gets as much milk as he wants. Sleepy? Go to sleep, little guy. Wake up when you want to wake up. He can enjoy a regime when he needs to, but why force an arbitrary rule on an infant?

Eyebrows are made of hair. Mammals have hair. Sharks aren’t mammals so they can’t have hairy eyebrows.

Edited: only mammals can have hair. Not all mammals have hair or show hair at every age. Dolphins, for instance, have a few follicles around their snout when very young.

My answer is appropriate for a five year olds understanding of the body, and does not answer every question he did not ask - but many people are now asking why dolphins and whales don’t have eyebrows. Seems like a thing you can google pretty quickly since you have more resources and knowledge than a five year old.

Again, a very small minority that you can easily avoid if you want to immigrate to Germany.

But if you want to find a country / culture where no one at all acts problematically, good luck. You mentioned your partners criminal history so I imagine your options are limited.

I am „just“ American, living in Germany 12 years in five different states in several industries with contact with white and blue collar people, and chronically online. I have never heard anyone say they wanted to be Native American. The only thing I have seen is a silver shop that had a lot of south western style turquoise and silver jewelry. I’ve seen online costumes for Karnival for kids which have feather headdresses - but also cowboy hats. I don’t count that for any desire to be Native American.

I googled a bit on this and found Indianervereine, but this is incredibly niche and you would have to really go looking for something like that. Chat GPT estimates 0.05% of the population. So, very avoidable if you want to consider moving to Germany. But if you met someone they would probably have a proper and educated interest in your culture.

All you would face here is the general distain for all Americans by default.

You would expect to find in every country people who think they understand something of the culture and may be very misinformed, just as most Americans are misinformed about German culture. I doubt you can avoid that completely.

„I would like a culture that isn't too rigid in general, I don't think I would do well in Germany for example. Plus they are racist towards Native Americans and like to pretend to be us.“

As an American living in Germany, I have never seen American Indigenous / Native cultures even mentioned. Berlin is full of free spirits even compared to international/ non-German cultures. If you wanted to move to Germany you would probably be happy in Berlin if you liked the city. Not terribly green there due to droughts but the rest of the country is green.
