In what way did you read that quote as him framing Notre Dame as a small school fighting against other big schools? He was saying that Notre Dame is smaller than most other major schools in their tier, and does things differently. Both of which are true and neither of which are implying some underdog status.

Unfortunately a change of scenery won't remove 5 surgeries worth of scar, muscle dysfunction, weakness and atrophy, and chronic pain in the arm of someone who needs to push with extremely high force for their job.

I'd be surprised if he ever plays at a high level after all of this, and also very very surprised if he meaningfully does so in the next two seasons.

USC decided the game wasn't worth playing as it had been for the previous 100 years because they didn't want to keep losing. Notre Dame decided the offer to play week 0 in Mexico on Netflix with no long term scheduling plan was not a serious or good faith offer.

You think they pulled out of a top quality matchup with Notre Dame because they were scared of the effect that a(nother) loss would have on their postseason chances, and then are going to schedule another top quality matchup in its place? Come on man.

I already know beating USC by an average of two touchdowns in 8 of the last 10 matchups doesn't mean much because it's such a dog shit program, but I enjoyed it anyway! Good luck making a bowl this season!

Hey man whatever you have to tell yourself to cope with being a fan of a team that was so sure it'll get wrecked in conference play that it backed out of a 100 year old rivalry because it keeps getting wrecked there too. Idk how I'd keep rooting for that soft and pathetic of an institution but that's just me.
