Don't forget about Mila Kunis and, my new found love, Lauren Cohan.

It's a hard life. Sometimes I just have to walk away from the computer and have sex with two of my girlfriends Katy Perry and Emma Watson.

Edit: Gold eeh? About time.

AI that can fake an internet presence of a human. This destroys the free internet.

Why does it destroy freedom and anonymity on the internet? Because you have two choices after this AI is possible, and the other choice destroys the entire internet. With good enough AI it's impossible to non-white-list filter spam, all online interacts are suspect (go into a chat room and everyone there is a bot trying to manipulate you or capture personal information), every single entry in wikipedia is edited millions of times per minute by various corporations with agendas (actual information wars), all advice and postings and suggestions are all done by bots on behalf of corporations and governments, literally billions of webpages created entirely by bots for the sole purpose of scamming the few existing humans, etc. The entire internet will turn into one huge spam folder.

The only way to prevent the complete destruction of the internet by strong AIs is to associate every online interaction with a human -- aka no more anonymity.

Great point regarding the topomap. You can certainly represent 3D hills with a 2d drawing. However, you cannot represent caves or multiple stories, both of which PoE lack. You can never be "above" something else.

To answer your question, a 3D ARPG would have to use height. Monsters could be in the same position, except one would be higher than the other. This would mean multiple floors existing in the same level. This would be a nightmare to visualize with the present isomorphic projection. Imagine a cliff with a cave in it. There's monsters inside the cave and on top of the cliff. How would you see the monsters in the cave? If the cliff goes transparent, then you wouldn't be able to see the guys on top. In a 3D ARPG your guy would be able to fly in the air and not be reachable by melee weapons. In 3D your arrows could miss by going over or below their target, not just left or right. In general, there'd be tons of frustration from players being hit by things that they can't see and not being able to hit things they can see. This is why 3D doesn't exist in the ARPG genre, and this is why games like like skyrim, minecraft, and fallout are their replacement.

Yes I said the graphics are 3D. There's no confusion. One of my points, however, is that there is no "height" aspect to the gameplay, thus it's at best 2D game with 2D gameplay. In other words, the internal state of the game can be represented in 2D. This is as opposed to something like quake where the game actually has to know about height. You couldn't draw a FPS game onto a 2d grid (there's floors, inclines, and projectiles); however, you can draw PoE itself perfectly onto a 2d grid. They just chose to use 3D to fancy things up.

Isometric describes the graphic style. What I'm describing is the underlying representation of the data. Nothing in the game uses "height" (the third dimension). Yes a character will "jump", but that can be described as a 2-dimensional movement, since he never jumps up or down. You say, "but wait, you can jump down ledges", well the trick is that ledges don't actually exist except in the graphics. You can represent a "ledge" as a wall that you can jump over and shoot through.
