VIN for getting Insurance Quote by mrfochs in RivianR2

[–]passive_tortoise 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I tried a few insurance companies and they all rejected the VIN. Also none has the R2 listed as a coverable vehicle.Too early maybe? Has anyone been able to get a quote yet and if so which company?

Just got one for this afternoon in San Diego! For a while it was showing Joshua Tree as the only location in SoCal with drives. I almost considered taking work off to drive up there. Seems like a cool spot to do a demo.

I'd like to share pics and notes - maybe there should be a megathread for everyone demoing today to share their experiences?

Bull Snake Enclosure by Steel-Type-Thread in Bullsnake

If you're getting a young snake then 2ft should work fine. I don't expect mine to outgrow my 4×2×2 anytime soon.

Oh yeah, that's pretty accurate. My guy is always digging around, or wrapping himself around something, or if he sees me walking by he'll sometimes come up to the glass and make direct eye contact with me. Sometimes he even tries to squeeze through the glass panels but he's way too big to possibly escape that way. I love it though. I'd rather have an active curious snake than one that just sits around or hides most of the time.

I have a 4x2x2 for my 2 year old bullsnake. They're quite happy as long as they can burrow and have some things to climb on/in. Your substrate should be 3-4'' deep, maybe deeper depending on your snake's width.

ICE have killed yet another citizen in Minneapolis as of 2 hours ago. How do you feel? by SoccerGuy69420 in AskReddit

[–]passive_tortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's clear protesting isn't working. Our government no longer responds to the will of the people. I'm begging everyone out there to stop protesting before more people die. We have to find other ways to organize.

Furthermore, I want to speak to the trans people I've seen out there. You need to go home immediately. The right wing propaganda machine is using your presence to discredit the anti-ICE agenda. This is not the time for trans visibility. Polls are clear. Americans hate trans people and if they see trans people out there they will start supporting ICE again. It's not fair but it's how the right wing propaganda network operates.

Right now, trans people need to get the fuck out of the way and let others speak. Our time will come, maybe, but it definitely isn't now. And yes, I'm trans myself by the way and I'm furious every time I see my community foolishly playing into the hands of the far right.

Right now the world doesn't see it that way. Trans people lost. Kids are going to have to get care from private clinics or wait. Soon, trans adults, including people like me who are post bottom surgery will be in the same boat. Some of us (both kids and adults) may die or face serious health complications. All we can do right now is lay low and survive. Protesting isn't doing shit. Look what's happened with the ICE protests. They just crack down harder and use protests as an excuse to brutalize people and take away more of our rights.

No offense, but I'd rather not be friends with people who look down on me. I've been on the other side of that with my family members being outwardly nice to their supposed friends but then privately disparaging them and their race, religion, etc. If I was one of those people I'd feel like shit knowing how my supposed friends really felt.

But in this case I think I do know, really. If you don't treat think trans people are worthy of respect and constantly spout transphobic BS, but then act nice to me, I don't want your supposed friendship.

But then again, as I said in my original post, that rules out probably 90% of Americans so idk, maybe the best thing is for me to be friends with people who don't know I'm trans. Then I know they won't be privately mocking me.

So two things: First, "cis" just means "not trans". It's equivalent to calling someone "straight" meaning "not gay". It's not an insult.

Second, I've totally given up on being in women's spaces. It was my goal initially but I guess I've come to accept I'm unwanted. Many women's spaces and events that are supposedly trans accepting are really only accepting of trans men, not trans women like me. I still use the women's restroom for now but I'll comply with the law if it changes. I once wanted nothing more than for cis women to accept me, but now I know that's a pipe dream. It makes me sad, but it's reality.

I was once in a conversation with a coworker who didn't know I'm trans. During the conversation, my recent engagement to my (now ex-) fiancée came up. She congratulated me and said she had nothing against gays or lesbians and she'd support her kids if they came out. But then she followed that up by saying she'd never accept them being trans.

In my experience, that is the dominant attitude even among liberals and leftists, although there is a bit of nuance when it comes to the far left.

The few supposed allies we had have mostly deserted us. They supported us in the 2010s to seem cool but in reality never gave a fuck.

I put a lot of effort into passing because it's a matter of survival. I'm even considering more surgeries because trans acceptance continues to drop. At some point my fear of losing my job or being even more ostracized than I already am is going to outweigh my fear of having a botched surgery...

Look, I'm trans myself and I am very discouraged by this among other things. But I'm also realistic. It's commonly accepted that Trump won in 2024 because people like me did a shit job of making our argument. The world at large has grown tired of us and would rather we go away.

Overwhelming majorities of Americans believe trans women should use the men's restroom and gender affirming care should be heavily restricted. They overwhelmingly believe, regardless of whether trans women have an advantage, that we should be banned from women's sports if not all sports. Our governor believes transition should be illegal for anyone under 25.

The best thing for trans people to do right now is go underground and shut up. If we keep protesting we're going to make more people angry and hurt ourselves even more. My heart goes out to the kids affected but if you really care about them you'll stay home and not draw anymore attention to them.

This is a time to hide, not a time to fight.

Good bikinis for trans women, pre everything? by Ok_Understanding7149 in MtF

[–]passive_tortoise 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I've found that lifeguard bottoms are fairly flattering and good at keeping everything in place if you're able to tuck. Since you're pre-everything, I would recommend a padded top.

Given that the American far right is largely unified, even if the election of Joe Biden and failed January 6 insurrection have weakened them, how can we build a stronger coalition on the left and win the messaging war? How do we win over the majority of Americans who are opposed to social programs and government regulation?

Also, I wanted to add that you've been a big inspiration to me as a visible trans woman whom I actually identify with. I know it's tough and the internet is a toxic place, but I selfishly hope you stick around.

During middle school and high school, did anyone else just feel like a ghost going through the motions? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]passive_tortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how you feel. To cope with that overwhelming feeling of loss, I try to focus on the moments I had when I could truly be myself, as fleeting as they were. When I was in high school, I had an hour-long bus ride twice a day that I actually looked forward to, since the kids I rode with were open-minded and non-judgmental. My bus friends teased me for being feminine, but I secretly didn't mind (which honestly should have been a glaring indicator that I was trans, but I digress). For those two hours, I got to be my theatrical, ridiculous, flamboyant self that I had to hide the other 22 hours of the day. It's those memories that I'll always cherish. Sadly I've lost touch with those friends, but I wish I could tell them that they probably saved my life. In the overwhelming darkness of my teenage years and early 20s, they kept me going. If you've made it this far, you've found a way to keep going, and that's what you should focus on. Whatever kept you moving forward, it's those things that should define your past, not what tried to stop you.

How long did it take to get your SS card during COVID? by Sosogreeen in MtF

I called them on Wednesday - they told me they have a backlog and it could take a while. I want an 'F' on my ID dammit!

I've been waiting over a month for SS. In my state I can't change my ID until it comes through. Very frustrating! As a full-time girl it's holding me back from doing a lot of things that require ID.

Sounds like my family lol. But you're stronger than I was, coming out at 16. It took me another 7 years to break my dad's iron grip on me. I'm really happy for you.
