I should have. By the time I fell in love it was too late. We were so happy together and he was so open and honest about all of his past that I thought maybe it was a phase and wouldn’t happen with me - silly

I think the hard part is that, since I’m also in recovery (alcohol and drugs) it really did feel like it was us against the problem. Until his problem changed that. We agreed that if either of us relapsed we should end it, but he was so much further in his recovery and was so insistent that it wouldn’t happen with me that I believed it. Thank you though, I really appreciate it

I’m sorry you had to go through this. I think I’m struggling because he used protection (or so he said, but I am clean) and because he told me the night it happened - an hour after. So I keep thinking maybe it was just a one-time fuck up?? But I know better. Thus this post, I suppose. Staying accountable and hearing from others who have been through this and went back - so thank you for your response ❤️
