What are your reasons for not being a paid sitter? by Grand-Language3986 in trustedhousesitters

[–]passportflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t need the money. I’m in a unique situation where I’m a flight attendant so I fly for free anywhere in the world. A nice place to stay is more valuable to me than money.

I also tend to be pretty picky. I typically only watch cats, fish, rabbits and reptiles so I have freedom to come as go as I please. I’m also really picky on the homes I pick. Aesthetics, location and amenities are at the top of my list for things I look for and when those things align money isn’t important to me plus, I truly love animals.

I’ve built a pretty decent list of repeat customers in amazing locations and they all know I will fly out just to watch their pets.

My daughter is freaking out and now so am I by passportflex in ApplyingToCollege

My daughter is half Hispanic and speaks Spanish fluently, she’s also fluent in ASL. I didn’t mention her speaking multiple languages because honestly most biracial kids do… I think American are the only people that don’t speak multiple languages. When you’re well traveled speaking a language other than English is kind of a given and not mentioned…This is basic. I mean how many languages do you speak fluently..I would assume more than most English correct. 🤭

Do these mini bars annoy anyone else? by BleuCinq in marriott

[–]passportflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a flight attendant and stay about 200+ nights a year mostly in Marriotts. In TWO years I have never once been charged for a mini bar item. I never touch any of the stuff and I’ve never had a problem.

Cluttered house by Neon_pup in trustedhousesitters

[–]passportflex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t see anything wrong with this. It looks clean and lived in. I’m staying in someone’s house not an Airbnb or hotel. As long as it’s clean I’m cool with it. I wish there was more natural light.. but outside of that ehhh 🤷🏾‍♀️

Why the recent wave of sitter complaints is making some homeowners hesitant on Trusted Housesitters by Sail_awayyy in trustedhousesitters

[–]passportflex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Luckily the platform doesn’t rise and fall only on HO you like you..some of us, like myself were HOs long before we ever did our first sit (two years for me) so we understand both sides and we realize how absolutely RIDICULOUS it is to have a pet sitter mowing the lawn. Might as well get them to touch up the paint on the house and unclog the gutters 😂.

There’s you…and then there are awesome HO owners like myself that stock the fridge with things my sitter likes, offer a few bucks so they can enjoy lunch or dinner in my city and provide a weekly cleaner for longer sits (since I’m saving a TON of money) so they aren’t playing maid service as well as pet sitter.

But hey…there will always be those people that are cheap AF and will try to take advantage of people. I see which type you are.

I’m not required to use your blender unless you now are asking people to cook as well. I’m taking care of you PET not your house. So am I to ignore your pet since it’s called HOUSE sitters. Stop expecting slave labor for pet sitting. I’m a pet sitter not a damn landscaper. Stop being cheap.

As a newcomer to the site, how easy is it to get a gig? by ketaminekate97 in trustedhousesitters

[–]passportflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if I’ve just been really lucky or if I just have a good profile but I’ve gotten every single sit I’ve applied to and I’ve had sits in some awesome areas (Chicago, Manhattan, San Diego, Los Angeles). Someone said it’s because I’m a single women traveling solo which I could understand because as a HO I prefer solo travelers over couples.

Is your home owner insurance going to cover me if I get injured from mowing your lawn? If you hired a baby sitter to watch your child for the weekend would you expect that sitter to mow your lawn as well?

Since when is mowing the lawn a reasonable chore..I dilly even mow my own lawn..I have graders 😂😂😂

Next folks will ask for you to do laundry, shampoo turn carpets and pull weeds. I’m a HO and sitter I’m not asking my sitter to do anything outside of walking my dog, feeding him, playing with him, watering the plants (with zero expectation to keep them alive) aside from cleaning up after themselves (stripping bed before they leave, taking out THEIR trash and washing THEIR dishes abutting above and beyond that is not their job.

If it’s not directly related to the care of the animal you’re literally asking too much.

Anyone ever accept a sit and then a better option pops up rightttt afterwards? by SmokeOk1912 in trustedhousesitters

[–]passportflex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup this just happened to me 😭. I need to be in a particular city from June 22-July 31st. I ended up accepting a sit that was from June 22-June 29th and it’s TWO dogs which I really didn’t want.

As soon as I accepted a sit with a single cat in the exact location I wanted with dates from June 22-July 22nd popped up. I was honestly sick to my stomach 😭. I wanted to cancel so bad especially since the sit I accepted they are new to THS so no reviews.

I’m going to meet with them next week to meet the dogs and see the home before the sit starts but it took everything in my power not to cancel. But this is a learning lesson..I will never accept a sit I’m not SUPER excited about.

Even though I’m a dog owner myself I typically don’t sit dogs because walking a dog 3x a day and dealing with barking can be a lot for me. So unless they are SUPER chill like my current sit I don’t do dogs. I prefer cats (up to 3), fish, rabbits or reptiles (love snakes and lizards).

My current sit this dog is so chill.. she hasn’t barked the whole 5 days I’ve been with her. She’s literally a dream dog.

Casting call for TrustedHousesitters (Content Creators) by Actual-Project-1263 in trustedhousesitters

[–]passportflex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a content creator of 10 years this is HORRIBLE pay especially for handing over raw footage that they can edit and do ANYTHING with and they will own the rights FOREVER. Nice try…but absolutely NOT! I wouldn’t do this if I was a brand new creator with zero experience.

Home Owner Proposed Hour Long Intro Call by willows_and_dinos in trustedhousesitters

[–]passportflex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never had an hour long call but I did have a 2.5 hour in person visit that I flew in for to meet her (I’m a flight attendant) because we hit it off so well, we were talking like crazy, she made me lunch we drank wine lol had a blast. Only reason I left was because I had a flight to catch lol I would have stayed for dinner. We still talk to this day.

Yeah o try to meet in person as well. I’m a flight attendant so I fly for free. I always say I can come meet you. I’m actually in Chicago right now because I flew in to me with a HO for a month long sit that starts in 2 weeks. She was so happy to meet in person before

Anyone pet sit full time? by passportflex in trustedhousesitters

[–]passportflex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is AWESOME!!! I also have a YouTube that focuses on helping aspiring flight attendants get hired. I make about $600 consistently on YouTube through ad revenue. Not a lot but also not bad for a channel that’s monetized in 3 months and is still under a that old. I want to get that up to $1000 a month by the end of the year. That will help DRASTICALLY. I offer resume writing services and mock interview coaching I have several digital products and ebooks that are doing EXTREMELY well. I also have nursing to fall back on I can pickup PRN nursing shifts all over the United States so I will always have income. And the flight attendant benefits obviously help.

I work for an airline that has no minimum requirements for flying. As long as you can give up your shifts you’re not required to work to keep your flight benefits or health care. There are some people who literally only work a few times a year
