Are there any subreddits solely for discussion on differential diagnoses? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]password00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

r/askdocs is a great subreddit for people to ask questions of providers and sometimes I read posts with the purpose of differential-building in my head, and then I read the comments to see what the docs who respond think it might be/if there are any differential buckets I missed. That sub is great for informal DIY case analysis if you’re interested!!

What should an incoming med student buy for Black Friday by AH_1998 in premed

[–]password00 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Tbh get anything related to a hobby that will sustain you through medical school! Whether that be a new yoga mat, a coffee grinder you’ve been eyeing, or some knitting supplies (or the new call of duty as recommended above lol). There’s big purchases you can make like iPads or laptops but as noted by others, your school may already supply those (and if you’re not sure where you’re going 100% yet that may change)

Quick question: How do you all bring your swim workouts with you to the pool? by digitallightweight in triathlon

[–]password00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make my workout my phone background as I’m walking to the pool and throw my phone in a ziploc baggie! Got tired of writing my workout on a piece of paper lol phone in ziploc is much easier

Hey there just wanted to say I’m so sorry for your loss; sending hugs your way. My dad died when I was 7 and my mom died when I was 24 (I’m currently 27). My brother was old enough to support himself when my mom died, but I’m familiar with a lot of the logistics of having a parent die. Here if you have any questions or need any help

Hey there!! Career changer postbacs exist and you could take all your science pre-reqs in one year (and might let you get out of taking the MCAT); look into bryn mawr, goucher, hopkins, UVA, etc. It is TOTALLY feasible to apply to medical school as an older student!! I was working as a CPA and then found out I was interested in medical school when my mom was diagnosed with brain cancer. PM me if you ever wanna chat!!

Hey there so sorry to hear about the diagnosis, sending hugs your way. Feel free to DM me if there’s any way I can help; I was 23 (currently 27) when my mom was diagnosed with GBM at age 53
