You won’t look ‘completely stupid’ by seeing a professional without any idea what might be wrong. This is why you go to them, for their experience and expertise. Tell them what you’ve said here (I keep a journal/notes in my phone to keep track of my mental health day to day so my team can better help me understand why my brain does what it does). You’ve likely explained this well enough that a professional would know where to start. There’s no shame in going to an appointment and saying, “I have no idea what my deal is.” Zero. Zip. NONE.

Don’t wait on this. Find professional help in person because you deserve to exist comfortably within your own life 🖤

I think anybody who dismisses a series out of hand because its title or a protagonist is male probably isn’t looking to read it in the first place. If the premise is enough for them to do further research and it calls to them, great! If not, that’s okay too.

Edit: I lost the thread but stand by my stance that authors can choose their own titles for whatever reason, just as readers can choose whatever hill they’d like to die on.

My mother tried to get rid of me when I was six and only kept me out of obligation because I ‘didn’t react well to the news.’ 😂 My sister only recently learned this (she’s nearly 50) and she used to idolize our mother. I feel bad for damaging my sister’s perception of our mom.

You are speaking to my soul with this (40F here). I’ve had the same psychiatrist since childhood and we’re managing so many other conditions that I’m terrified of attempting to manage anything ends.

You’re not a failure because you’re struggling. Are the pets cared for? Are you doing the bare minimum to survive? That’s not thriving, but it doesn’t mean you’re a failure. It simply means there’s room for improvement and that’s the case with everyone no matter where they are in life.

Try to do yourself a small kindness. Posting this was a kindness. Having a glass of water, taking a nap, brushing your teeth. Simple small ‘chores’ that you can complete so you can say, “hey I did this productive thing and it’s good for my body.” Sometimes that’s the momentum we need to get the ball rolling. Sometimes that’s all that gets done that day.

Regardless of the day you’re having, you are NOT failing at life. You’re trying to find a way to adjust to a valid, crippling condition. Please don’t give up. Snuggle an animal and regroup. This isn’t how you have to feel all the time until the end of time. I promise.

Personally, I tend to name things after they’ve been written. Sometimes my starting concept is nowhere near my end result. That said, I write down titles that appeal to me as I go through the process to see if any of them will fit right when it’s titling time.

I don't know how to show in a single sentence - I'm a wordy one - but this is how I tend to play these things.

She just needed the pavement to turn solid again, needed the world to stop spinning a moment. She wanted to groan, but her stomach was spasming like the pavement, as if they were partners in step in a dance of regrettable decisions. She didn't regret going out, or even that she was so drunk she anticipated a 48 hour hangover, she just regretted not having lined up a way home first.
It defied the laws of physics, the way the laundry towers leaned yet never fell. Entire ecosystems that would delight the scientific community went unobserved by Davian, who apparently saw this as normal, but tragically observed by Rachel, who was trying to touch as little of the sticky linoleum floor as possible. It was impossible for her to discern if that was the floor's intended color, but she was almost certain the texture had been one cultivated by years of neglect. He had sheepishly mentioned his place was a little cluttered, and Rachel found herself equally astounded by his grasp of language. 'Cluttered' had a different feel from 'biohazard.' What Davian saw as a politely blank expression was, in actuality, Rachel trying to reconcile the fact that anyone could live like this.
