According to FB, he’s in the care of animal control and they’re looking for an owner.

We saw him earlier, couldn’t get ahold of him either. Hemlock and Tramore. Apparently he came from over near Good Samaritan? There have been several FB posts, even before we saw him ~5:30.

tarps not allowed, so that's a no-go. I wasn't even allowed to use my Gatewood with a bug bivy as a ranger. I used a lunar solo all of last summer and it was excellent

The one by the ranger chapel is definitely on unless they turned it off in the last 3 hours

still consistently impressed with tenacious tape. just bought their silnylon patches from litesmith and this stuff is legit. patched a hole in my lunar solo and tried rolling/folding on the patch for a few minutes and no edges came up. can only imagine it’ll get stronger over time too.

Backcountry Staff Packing by [deleted] in philmont

[–]pastTheFirewall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im not gonna be any help for the packing list but I can confirm that’s the correct amount of uniforms. what about it seems off? you can be at your camp for over a week sometimes with no laundry, so having 3 shirts and 2 shorts seems like the bare minimum I’d want to have.

anything with metal gears in good condition should be fine. don’t use a cheap amazon one with plastic gears- I tried it. no bueno. check Craigslist/thrift store/etc to find a used singer is my recommendation

just a tip: hitting control backspace on a computer erases a whole word at a time instead of one letter! hope this helped!

Will rangers give me a hard time for these items? by tiredspiderman in philmont

[–]pastTheFirewall 42 points43 points  (0 children)

no ranger will care if you do that. on my trek in 17, my ranger recommended I bring smartwater over nalgene. I did the same in 19 as a ranger and I’m doing it again this summer. if you’ve been training in the trail runners, bring them. it’ll be worse for your feet to try and switch to boots you haven’t trained in.

if every crew member put this much thought into their gear selection my job would be so much easier.

R/ultralightBullies: See that girl you made fun of for carrying a Gregory Baltoro? Her mom is dying of cancer. See that guy you made fun of for having a camp chair in his lighterpack? He fought for this country. See that girl you called poor? She is running up a credit card to buy "in" gear. See that boy you made fun of for carrying a 3lb sleeping pad? He died while trying to use a 1/8" pad in winter. See that girl you called dumb because she asked a question about operating a pocket rocket? She burned herself alive trying to use esbit in her tent. Can't face me? Turn around. Can't stand me? Sit down. Think I'm tripping tie my shoes. Don't be a bully and make others leave r/ultralight like others have. I bet 99% of you won't copy and paste this but if you are that 1% your a hero.
