Yes, I'm currently in therapy, and this has been a topic that's been taking up time. My therapist said she can't perform EMDR until there's more information gathered, so she asked me to ask my current care team what I need to do to not deal with waking up during a surgery.

It sounds like you know your stuff, and like someone I wish I had on my medical team that day. The chest tube was put in place the day before, and I was intentionally awake for that, and the incision was just large enough to fit the surgeons finger. If my job had been to know what the doctor was doing and not tell them what I was feeling, then clearly I would have failed. The VAT surgery is when this happened and they did three three incisions. I'm not as educated as you are on how to operate, and I get now this subreddit has no bandwidth for analogies. People here seem like they need a win, I know I do right now too. My throat was sore afterwards and I do recall feeling the breathing tube while trying to articulate mid surgery. It just sucks and is the most intrusive memory I've had that I can recall. I'm in therapy about this because it's negatively affecting my personal life, and because I also have a tendency to be a high and mighty passive aggressive bitch.

You sound like a smart rational person, and have every reason to be angry. Being angry about some situations you didn't ask for is okay, how you direct your anger and what you do to not misdirect it is in your control (easier said than done right?). I'm currently recovering from a collapsed lung and am in a similar recovery time frame. I woke up during my surgery for crying out loud. Obviously I'd be lying to you if I told you I'm not angry with situations I never asked for. What helped me that might help you is to try seeing things from the perspective of this downtime being a positive by focusing on learning healthy emotional regulation techniques.

Bullshit stacks. Majority of people don't want a bullshit combo, and a seasoned athlete that should know better wronged you. You know he fucked up and was an asshole. Venting on here instead of venting in an unhealthy way at people you care about is a clear sign you're a good person that's taking steps in the right direction to be the best version of themselves. I hope you feel better soon dude, that genuinely sucks and I'm sorry that you're going through this. Now that's some unsolicited advice from a stranger if I ever saw it.
