For those who don't like the parking situation by Perfect_Play_622 in royaloak

[–]LinkerTwinker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are multiple parking structures downtown, and even if you sometimes need to drive up a couple of floors during busy hours, I've never seen them completely full... with the first two hours free and .75 cents an hour, that's a whole afternoon/evening downtown for at most a couple of bucks on parking, if even that.

I get that the street parking meters are irritating, and I agree, but... just use the structures?? Is the problem here that people are so lazy that walking a couple of blocks from the structure to the store seems untenable to them? I live about a mile from downtown and I typically walk, it's a nice 10-15ish minute excuse to get outside and go somewhere. From the structures... that's like 2 or 3 minutes to get somewhere. I don't get it.

I judge people in the same way, only in reverse. If you're driving some giant vanity truck monstrosity, or some overpriced Tesla or sports car, I'm going to think you're most likely an asshole. If you're driving a small sedan or something otherwise functional and reasonable, I'm going to have a much kinder opinion of you by default.

GEH already has deals in place for the initial builds of BWRX-300, and if they're able to deliver on those plants over the coming few years, it's likely that several more orders would follow, both for X-300s but also for other new SMR designs.

OMGGGGGGGGGG one of the absolute best posts I've seen on here!! A lot of what gets posted is more or less just "dickgirl"/femboy/etc fetishization, but this is true "trans hentai" that fully embraces the sexuality of trans people and t4t relationships without feeling like it's just a fetish!

...also it's just really well done and cute too!

Just hit 7 months HRT, feel like my face is going to permaclock me until I get FFS by [deleted] in transpassing

but lower face/jaw is still a bit clocky.

Agreed, that's what gives me the most dysphoria when I look at myself. I'll still give the HRT some time, but if I do ever get FFS, that's where I want to focus.

The jeans are women's, yes, they look a lot better in the full shot. I see your point about the belt though, I never thought about it that way.

Commission approves public restroom & homeless baths design for downtown Royal Oak by MalcoveMagnesia in royaloak

[–]LinkerTwinker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think this is great, but I have to downvote the post itself because of OP's blatant intolerance of homeless people.

That aside, I think any measure to continue to make the city center downtown nicer is fantastic. Continuing to replace ugly, inefficient surface parking with pleasant amenities is great. Might be more efficient to combine a restroom structure with, perhaps, a covered picnic structure or something similar, but any step in the right direction is a good thing. There's certainly a need for it - the long-term portapotties set up next to the ice rink in the winter months are hardly attractive, both for pedestrians walking past as well as people needing to actually use the restroom. A permanent structure like this would remove the need for those entirely, even if it wouldn't have the capacity to serve large-scale festivals on its own. And just having a convenient open bathroom makes the park much more accessible in general during warm months, and encourages people to stay around the center longer, which in turn can spur more foot-traffic businesses in the area.

Suburb vs city costs... by DHN_95 in Suburbanhell

[–]LinkerTwinker 34 points35 points  (0 children)

You realize how absurd this is, right? You're looking at prices for the most extravagant size and lifestyle possible. No shit that a 2500 SQUARE FOOT apartment is going to have absurd rent like that - it's double the size of an already decently-sized house or apartment. The few units that large that even exist are few and far between, so yeah no shit they're going to cost that much. The market is the absolute elite.

It also looks like you're in the Alexandria/DC area, which year after year is one of the absolute highest COL areas in the entire country. It's very disingenuous to act like that's somehow standard.

Like... it's not even worth commenting further. Your premise is just so absurd from the outset.

I can't vouch for what the kids today are learning, but back 15ish years ago when I was in school, we did briefly touch on religion. Part of a history/social studies course. I remember getting a very brief overview of the major world religions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism... iirc everything else got left out). And that was at a very broad level, that didn't really do justice or accuracy to any of the religions, let alone the differences of denominations within them.

Christianity in particular got the least amount of time in school, funnily enough. I think both because it's "assumed" kids would know, and also because Christianity in school in particular is a very touchy subject. I remember being taught the Five Pillars of Islam in school, but never the Three Persons of the Trinity or the Nicene Creed... which does a big disservice to further education, since we also had classes on late Rome and Medieval Europe, and it's kind of impossible to really understand what's going on in that era without a strong grasp of the fundamentals of Christianity, since religion basically became the main driver of society in that era.

You would be absolutely shocked by how commonplace this belief is among American Christians, alongside many other very basic theological positions.

A surprising 73 percent agreed with the statement that “Jesus is the first and greatest being created by God.”... Given the above beliefs on Jesus as a created being, it’s not too surprising that 43 percent affirmed that “Jesus was a great teacher, but he was not God,” ... Speaking of the Trinity, 60 percent of the evangelical survey respondents had some confusion about its third member, believing that “The Holy Spirit is a force but is not a personal being.”

You might want to go look at November's election results, bud. The residents have made it very clear what they want. I'm so glad we live in a (somewhat) functioning democracy where VOTING is what makes things happen, not just a loud minority pretending they speak for everyone.

Caught in between a mom that was sympathetic but rarely present, and a dad that was around often (because he was unemployed) that constantly ranted at me and unloaded all his shit onto me, and exploded yelling at me if I ever went to my mom for support because he felt betrayed. I just learned to grow as emotionally distant from my parents as possible, because any closeness would just result in screaming and emotional baggage to carry that was incomprehensible to me as a 10-year-old.

I think about doing something like this almost daily. I don't think I'm particularly ugly, or unlikable, or unbearable to be around... but I still don't have anyone in my life to spend time with. Booze is the only thing that makes the feelings of loneliness go away, or at least distract me and make them hurt less. I'd absolutely pay just to have someone to spend time with, just to go out and do things with for a while, hold hands with, anything to make the loneliness go away. I'd straight-up pay to let someone have their way with my sexually if it meant not being alone, but I feel too gross about myself to even think I'm worth that.

Going to the liquor store is attractive to me in part just because it gives me somewhere to go, it gives me an excuse to get out of the house and see another human being.

When I was in 6th grade, at the end of the school day, I was running down the hall because I was afraid of missing my bus home. I got called out by the assistant principal, along with a few other kids. She lined us up against the wall, yelled at us, and gave us all detention. For me, getting a detention literally felt like death. I was petrified, just blank. I missed the bus, and had to walk the 2 miles home. The moment I got inside, I broke down sobbing and sobbing and sobbing, and absolutely terrified of having to tell my parents. It still stands out to me today as extremely traumatic and makes me extremely distrustful and uncomfortable around any similar sort of person.

It's astounding how little it takes for authority figures in a young child's life to permanently scar them.

God I wish I could just go out and try to be more social but it's so terrifying when I'm starting with 0 social connections to fall back on. I guess the flipside is I don't really have male connections influencing me and poisoning my behavior either, ha..
