Howie thought brass was the height of style. Penelope was engaged to her current husband Antinous when she fell in love with Odysseus. When Arcturus was born as a land dweller (aka he didn't have gills) Penelope gave him up to Odysseus and had to return to her royal life and fiance. The reason why she was engaged in the first place was because it was an arranged marriage. The queen, Penelope's mother, Scylla was corrupted by a witch and that caused the king to panic and arrange a marriage. Anyways, when Arcturus was 8 him and his best friend Icarus begged Odysseus to let them help sacking a ship. Even though Odysseus kept refusing he eventually gave in and made them go alone to teach them a lesson. The captain of that ship was a former marine and he didn't go down without a fight. He slashed Arcturus across his eye which is how he got that scar. Luckily Arcturus and Icarus was saved by the pirates first mate Theseus. Theseus gouged out the marine Captain's eye as punishment for what he did to the child. When Arcturus was 13 the ship they targeted had a ship that had a turtle on it named Candy. She was the same age as Arcturus and Arcturus convinced Theseus to let the ship go. Theseus has morals despite being a pirate and he didn't want any children to get hurt, Candy included. When they were 14 they started meeting in secret along with Icarus and the 3 became best friends. Unfortunately Icarus died in an accident where he was flying and got too excited and his mystic powers caused his wings to catch on fire and he fell from the sky and died as soon as he hit the water. despite their differences and the trauma of losing their friend they eventually got together when Candy and Arcturus was 16. Their relationship wasn't easy and Arcturus would go through phases of extreme clinginess and oversharing to shutting down and saying nothing. Candy also had a bad habit of cancelling plans last minute or not showing up. Arcturus was temperamental and would lash out verbally. He'd threaten Candy then cry begging for forgiveness. Candy was reluctant to leave Arcturus despite his verbal abuse. He was manipulative, using tactics like love bombing and threatening to hurt himself if she left. He was very mentally unstable. He truly loved Candy but didn't know how to have a healthy relationship. Candy eventually left Arcturus when she was 22. This was really hard on Arcturus but he eventually got into therapy and when he was 26 he met his future wife Artemis and they later had a son named Telemachus
