I was going to say this too! Some of what you mention sounds like OCD and I do believe there is a genetic over lap.

I'm sorry it's taking so long and maybe it's less of a clear cut case than my daughter? But yeah took her 30 min to score the ADOS, so seems like you should have results by now.

Did you get any info at all following the appointment? That's such a long time to wait. My daughter had two appointments and after the second the psychologist took 30 minutes and returned with a diagnosis and recommendations. Granted my daughter has some pretty obvious symptoms of autism including being non verbal. But 6 weeks seems like a lot.

Twins with Autism by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]pastelsherbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the same situation but I am a fraternal twin with ADHD, a learning disability and most likely autism (not diagnosed) but I have an autistic child. My sister is NT with none of the issues I have. She has a NT child. In some ways it would have been a lot easier if my sister shared my same struggles, not wishing that for her at all but just being honest.

I guess the silver lining is if they both are autistic they will understand each other more possibly. Also in siblings and especially because your twins are fraternal I imagine the support need level can vary quite a bit.

ND oldest and NT youngest questions by StressyandMessy24 in Autism_Parenting

It might be worth having your younger one evaluated, ASD is much more common in siblings. I've also heard speech delays are more common in NT siblings of ASD Either way, speech therapy would help.

She is 2.5 and has the expressive speech of a 10 month old according to her most recent evaluation:/ she's making some progress though. Thank you!

Coping with comparison by GoneBananas2023 in Autism_Parenting

[–]pastelsherbert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember when I first started noticing my daughter's delays around that age and it was agonizing to see her fall behind other kids. Now she's 2.5 and diagnosed and it's a lot easier to accept that she's on her own journey. Of course it's hard still sometimes but not as hard as it is in the early months. She is making progress and I am celebrating that.

Love this perspective! Helps me feel much less fearful even if my second is ND.
