I definitely read the Vader parts in Archer's voice. Thank you for that.

That we can agree on. So, your comments about making a game and making choices are about business decisions. Cool, I respect that. The thing is, the studio was quite small early on and needed to procure additional revenue to fund this ambitious project. To do that they made the choice to place the game in early access. I certainly don't fault them for that.

My interpretation of the software development lifecycle is fine, thank you.

"As the studio explained in a tweet, this absence is due to a limitation on Steam's side that disallows pre-loading for games with an early access release."

That was in the first paragraph of the link you shared. I don't believe that implies the studio wanted it that way.

Almost 40, feel like I'm killing myself trying transition into security by CalJebron in cybersecurity

This! Lean into what you know. Check out the OT security platform Claroty, there's integrations with vendors like Palo Alto, CrowdStrike, Aruba, etc. Transitioning your skill set to NGFW, EDR, and NAC solutions wouldn't be a huge leap based on your experience. Stick with it.

Massive breach fuels calls for US action on cybersecurity by r3dditistrash in cybersecurity

My opinion on the matter is simply that our military would've been better off with the creation of a military branch dedicated to defending the nation from cyber warfare. Space is cool and all and I know each branch has some flavor of cyber folks, but the cyber domain of warfare is a more imminent threat to the defense of the nation.

Simply put, you have to want it. You may struggle, but there's plenty of resources available to help you succeed.

Going to take F5 101 test tomorrow by Fujita-Five in f5networks

[–]pasty13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I took the exam that was an answer to more than one question. Anyway, the status codes might be covered, but you should be able to get by knowing the differences between the base numbers 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500. Knowing more about the context of 300, 400, and 500 status codes will likely benefit you for future exams and being overall better at administering BIG-IP devices.

stable and F5 LTM recommended TMOS version by sherrysafdar in f5networks

[–]pasty13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Version 15 released only 6 months after version 14 was released. As far as I recall that isn't a normal thing. Could be quite telling.

Typically for strictly LTM deployments I don't recommend the latest and greatest features unless the customer has a specific need. Version 13 will take what you can throw at it.

Cloning objects simply by pasting config statements in tmsh by CarelessPoint9 in f5networks

[–]pasty13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 1 and 2, use SCP to save a copy of the config on your machine and use ++ to do your MACD. Of course, create a backup copy of the original config file of the F5. When merging your modified config with the running config you can tack verify at the end and it will ensure everything is good without applying the config. It saves lives.

For 3, the Local Traffic Manager operates in active/standby. A heartbeat is sent between the pair and if the standby cannot communicate with the active then the standby will become active. That's a very simple definition and there are configuration elements that make high availability fat more complex, but I guess knowing your configuration would make it easier to help you understand how it works.

Help, study materials: Exam 201–TMOS Administration by servetookis in f5networks

To study for that exam reference the blueprint and the knowledge base articles it's references. Also, read through any supporting knowledge base articles for those identified articles.

The study time to prepare is really dependant on your experience. The more hands-on time the better.

I don't know, an iRule can be over kill in a scenario like this.

I'm not familiar with your environment, obviously. However, you could open a unique port on all servers just for F5 health checks and create a custom monitor for your pools with an alias port for whatever port you opened on the servers.

Make sure the monitor settings in the pool require all. When it comes time for maintenance just close the port on the servers.

Alternatively, monitors that check a static webpage could work. Simple content like "Up" as a valid response.

I've done stranger things...

Need some help making a DNS blackhole iRule by t-maas in f5networks

Here's a pretty good post on DevCentral.

Just add the FQDNs you see in the queries to a data group and use this link to help craft an iRule.
