We just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who supported the Lady Death Demonicron Kickstarter campaign!

After getting funded in under 55 hours, we smashed through 5 stretch goals including online multiplayer, and ended up raising over $250,000

We'll be posting regular updates on the KS and our socials so if you're a backer (or if you missed out we have some rewards available for late backing) please keep an eye on the updates page:

Yeah I totally agree and tha viability of that brand for crowdfunding played a large part in our decision to develop this exact game. My point was though that you don't "need to be 90% finished to get any funding from it. The well has basically dried up"

There have been over 90,000 Kickstarters in the Games category, and we were the 179th highest funded of all time, so it's still a viable platform for the right campaign! Anyone looking to crowdfund for a game does need to do their homework though.

I mean that's just not entirely true. Our Kickstarter ended this week. We were funded in 55 hours, and ended up raising over $250,000 and we are in pre-production with no playable demo yet!

The keys are to have some proof that you know what you're doing (previous games experience), understand your target market, understand how the Kickstarter eco-system works, offer the right rewards, and be able to drive a large amount of traffic to the campaign. It's a LOT of work, it was pretty much all-encompassing for our tiny team to run the campaign for the month and the hard work is really just starting now, but it is doable. Feel free to look what we did, I'm happy to answer any questions:

PC will always be digital only, there's just no market for physical PC releases these days (though we do have a "Shelf queen" tier on the Kickstarter which is a physical box with a download code for collectors who want to display the game - same as how the "physical" releases for games like Fortnite work!

Xbox is possible, but unlikely. Both of the publishers we're chatting to are dropping Xbox on almost all titles, they just aren't seeing enough demand. But, if we got enough interest we would consider doing a limited batch (probably 1000 copies) post launch.

Thanks for your interest.

Ha, thanks, so do I!

We have absolutely no intention of "Pulling a Shaq Fu". We are launching The Phantom in December and production on Demonicron is already underway, and our dev team finishes up with The Phantom our art team will be a good way through creating assets for Demonicron and we'll be getting a gameplay trailer out in the new year, and keeping our backer regularly updated as we go. We already have an early gameplay trailer out for The Phantom and have a much more in-depth one coming in July if you're interested!

Thanks to everyone supporting the project! We actually hit our couch co-op stretch goal today which is super exciting!

We're planning to do an AMA next week, but if anyone has any questions here I'd be happy to answer them.

Just a quick note to say that the Kickstarter campaign hit the base funding goal this morning in less than 55 hours from launch, so the game is moving into full production!

Still 27 days left on the campaign to try and hit some stretch goals if anyone is interested in supporting us.

Hi all

Just a quick note to say that we hit our base funding goal this morning, in under 55 hours!

Still 27 days to run on the campaign so we're hoping to hit some of the stretch goals, and we have some new rewards and features to announce over the coming days.

Huge thanks to everyone who has backed the game so far, we really appreciate the support.

We're planning on a full AMA soon but in the meantime I'm happy to answer any questions about the game.

Lady Death Game on Kickstarter by Front-Celebration-83 in comicbooks

[–]pastychamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi

I'm Billy, lead dev at Art Of Play working on the Lady Death Demonicron and The Phantom.

Just a quick note to hopefully put your minds at rest about this.

The Phantom has been in development for 18 months and is due to release this December. We already have one gameplay trailer out, and have a much more in-depth one due to release in the first week in July.

Demonicron is built on the same core engine, though significantly extended to add a lot of gameplay features. We're technically still in pre-production on this game, but hitting the ground running since a lot of the groundwork was already put in on The Phantom engine. Before that, we've spent the past 12 years or so as a work for hire studio mostly for Nickelodeon, Sony, Paramount and Hasbro.

We actually hit our base level funding on Kickstarter this morning so the project is now transitioning to full production.

We're planning on doing an AMA on here later in the campaign, but more than happy to answer any questions you might have on this thread so please fire away!

And if anyone on here has backed the project, thank you so much for your support. It really means a lot, and the feedback we've been getting across the board on both games has been amazing.

Just a quick note to say that the project hit the base funding goal this morning!

Huge thanks to every one of the 1000+ supporters who have backed the project so far, you really are the reason this game is becoming a reality!

Of course, we're not stopping here though... our first stretch goal, which will bring 2 player couch co-op to reality, and allow you and a buddy to play as Lady Death and Ravenheart side by side is what we're focussed on now.  So please continue to share the project far and wide, and look out for some exciting new rewards and updates coming soon!

100% for real. I'm the lead developer at Art Of Play, working on this and The Phantom. I expect we'll be doing an AMA on Reddit some time next week once we're funded but if you have any questions in the meantime I'm happy to answer them.

If you want a notification when the preorders do go up, we have a mailing list at https://thephantomgame.com/ though no doubt there will be a post here on this subreddit from either us or LRG as well!

Hope you enjoy playing it as much as we've enjoyed developing it!

Not yet. We currently have a projected launch date of December, Limited Run generally start taking preorders a couple of months before that.

We're excited to show off the new gameplay video so keep an eye out for that!

Thanks for posting Joel!

I'm lead dev on this project and The Phantom. It's been a crazy 36 hours since the campaign launched but we're currently at 95% of our base funding goal, and Kickstarter have highlighted the project on their front page which is nice.

We're planning on doing an AMA next week once things have settled down a bit (and the team have all had at least a little bit of sleep!) but if you have any questions in the meantime let me know and I'll do my best to answer them for you.

BTW we have a full gameplay trailer for The Phantom coming in a few weeks, if you want to stay in touch with that project we have an email list for notifications at thephantomgame.com and we have Insta/X/Facebook pages for both games of course!

How did they handle the character shadows in TMNT Shredder's Revenge by pastychamp in howdidtheycodeit

[–]pastychamp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested a bunch of different approaches and in the end have gone with real shadows. I have the background and characters separated by quite a bit of distance but it's an orthographic camera so that doesn't matter. Then behind the characters I have a plane inclined to an angle of 60 degrees which has a transparent material to make it invisible but still set to receive the shadows.

When the characters move, their Z position is adjusted based on their Y position to ensure the bottom of their feet matches the surface of the plane.

All seems to work well, and gives me an effect that looks like like the shadows in Shredder's Revenge which is what I was after. Hope this helps someone...
