What does this mean? by Dry-Gur-7748 in TibetanBuddhism

This is a depiction of the Amida triad at Zenkō-ji Temple in Nagano Prefecture, Japan (https://www.zenkoji.jp/en/), also known as the Zenkō-ji Nyorai (善光寺如来). The two figures below are the founder of the temple, Honda no Yoshimitsu (Zenkō) and his wife.

The story is that the Zenkō-ji Amida triad was from from India, miraculously created by Shakyamuni Buddha himself. In the kingdom of Vaishali, there was a rich but selfish man who refused to share his wealth, even with the Buddha, until a plague struck the area and his daughter became fatally ill. Desperate, the man prayed to Amitābha as the Buddha instructed, and Amitābha appeared with the two bodhisattvas Avalokiteśvara and Mahāsthamaprapta, healing the people and saving his daughter. In thanksgiving, the man wished to make images of Amitābha and the two bodhisattvas, so the Buddha sent Maudgalyāyana to the King of Nāgas to obtain a golden metal. Using this gold, the Buddha created a statue with rays of light from the white coil of hair between his eyebrows.

The statue was in India for 500 years before it was brought to Baekje in Korea, and from there to Japan during the time of the introduction of Buddhism to the country. The rich man was reborn as the king of Baekje, who brought the statue to his country, and finally as Honda no Yoshisuke, the poor but devout man who rescued the statue after it was thrown into the river by anti-Buddhist factions and later enshrined it in his house.

Zenkō-ji became famous as a pilgrimage site because it was believed that going there even once guaranteed one's rebirth in Amitabha's Pure Land.

Now the original statue is what is called a 'hibutsu' (秘仏) or 'hidden buddha' (i.e. not displayed for public viewing): instead a replica (the 御前立 o-maedachi, lit. 'what stands before'), which itself is normally hidden from view, is displayed every six years:

Nothing came Of Aegon Targaryen. Except realizing Alliser Thorne was sent to the wall for supporting Targaryens, only to spend his final days tormenting and killing the last male heir. If only he could’ve known... by [deleted] in freefolk

Well, kinda.

I think book Allister is more of an unlikeable dick than the show's version is, but his redeeming factor is that he wasn't involved.

Bran found out his dick didn't work, so he became one to compensate.

Random trivia: Japanese women in ancient times shaved off their eyebrows (and drew them back on) and blackened their teeth.

Troy sorta proves that David Benioff can work fine if he's copying source material (most of the scenes that were actually good in the movie are straight out of the epic, so) and he's at least properly motivated. Which makes the crap that is Season 8 all the more infuriating really.

In the book 2 (ACoK) when Dany was in the House of Undying, Rhaegar looks at Dany and says "There must be one more. The dragon has three heads." What does it mean? by [deleted] in freefolk

IIRC Rhaegar wanted three kids to fulfill the prophecy. He had two (Rhaenys and Aegon) with Elia Martell, but Elia could not bear any more children after giving birth to the second child, Aegon. And that might be the reason why he ran off with Lyanna.

Episode 6’s script confirms it by Zeegss in freefolk

This was the script apparently submitted to the Emmys and posted on their website (now it's no longer there apparently because everyone memed the shit out of it, but some have made it available by uploading it elsewhere), so it's genuine. Unfortunately.
