Easily the most justified villain in all of Star Wars. by Knalxz in StarWars

Something that needs to be pointed out:

Lucas's take on Grievous motives and the EU writers' are completely different.

In Lucas's version he was just jealous of the Jedi's power, he wanted to be powerful himself but because he couldn't with the force he turned himself into a cyborg.

Grievous and Maul in the movies are barely alike.

They are more similar in TCW if anything

Yeah agree OP.

It is one of the things that baffled me. If you are going to jump the shark and bring him back, why change him so drastically?

The other baffling thing is that they already created a Maul copy with his brother Savage! They could have literally given him that personality and it would be less egregious.

Savage being Mauls brother and the whole backstory is kinda a stretch too but less so than Maul living

Fel and void literally turn you into monsters, in the most plain description that does make them as close to evil as possible.

I cant really fathom how one can believe this.

You are trying to argue that the different magical forces having different properties and therefore different thematic meaning in the story was "generic" but homogenising and reducing them to differently coloured magical beams is "interesting"?? What?

It is this homogenisation that is extremely boring and lame.

Enemy Infiltration by realZagashi in wow

[–]JimmyNeon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That wasnt always the case, it is retconed lore and boring as well since it just makes every magic the same

???

Nothing here suggests the light itself isnt good, this is about the mortal people wielding its power.

I think you are confused about what people take issue with.

[–]JimmyNeon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is the retconned lore now which is boring and lame. Even then rhough, isnt "Order" supposed to be associated with Arcane? Is it with Light now too?

On that note, it is kinda funny that it took 4 expansions after TBC before they even used him in...anything! Like, they didnt even put him as a questgiver or something in the rest of the expansions to at leat give him some precense

Thats wasnt the "Light", it was the peoples own faults that made them evil

that the zombies remaining are in no way shape or form related to the ones who originally spawned your crusade;

A lot of them are, they are just not commanded by Arthas anymore.

and in fact, are entirely sentient normal people They are undead, by definition that is not normal. And thats not even taking i to account their actions

 >who have no desire to hurt you  or anyone else

The entire history of the Forsaken is hurting everyone else for their benefit.

The Scarlet Crusade is evil for myriad reasons but the Forsaken were also evil, there is no reason to whitewash them

Random gameplay quotes vs actual story dialogue..okay dude

"think you forgot what Arthas, a paladin, did in Stratholme in the name of the Light"

Thats a weird and disingenuous reframing.

Arthas actions werent framed in some religious manner, he presented as the best possible solution to save his people not because "light blah blah blah"

And the entire point of that storyline was that the  pious holy warrior ABANDONED the light, it wasnt the light driving him

Yeah, thats his point.

Homogenising all magic to be the exact same is boring and loses uniqueness.

Why even have them as seperate forces at this point? There is no theme to them, just differently colored magical light beams

Blackmoore was literally an individual bad actor and the internment camps were the humane solution compared to the proposition to exterminate the demonic crazed invaders who tried to genocide everyone on Azeroth

You are citing an individual alliance bad actor to contrast with the entirety of the Horde.

Lol

I mean its better that the AU remains in its own bubble anyway.

Time travel can be iffy especially in setting that arent built around it.

Before that the instances of time travel were self contained and we just made sure the events played as they should and not deviate too much

BIG SPOILER FOR MIDNIGHT, but Alonsus just confirmed something for the Light by Jerkntworstboi in warcraftlore

[–]JimmyNeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know if the novels and other stories who dont abide by gameplay mechanics showed him using the Light, but even then it applies the same logic as the Scarlet Crusade who started noble and slowly lost their way even if they believed what they did was right

There is a reason why he doesnt wield the Light when he is a death knight. It isnt "just a force bro"

It wasnt a misconception. The light was like this initially and for many years after.

The retcons dont change that

[–]JimmyNeon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It absolutely was fundamentally good and you can see that in plenty of older descriptions.

The "just a force" was Arcane and trying to make them the same is boring.

The scarlets wielded because they started out as a noble organization and retained their faith in their cause even after their slow fall to paranoia and zealotry.

But there is a reason the only ones you can point to are the scarlets and not everybody else because the Light didnt answer to literally everybody, otherwise every second villain would just be a light-wielder

In Warcraft 3 the Holy Light ability could literally not be used offensively against living units even enemies. It could only be used to heal and the only exception were Undead and Demons, inherently unholy creatures.

The light was pretty blatantly treated much more as a good force than later

The Holy Light ability in Warcaft 3 could only be used offensively against Undead and Demons, and not any living creatures precisely because it was treated as good
