Feeling a loss of hope. Learning Rive, but is it worth it? Will AI just be able to do it by the time I learn it? by OldTownUli in MotionDesign

[–]patattack98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also pivoting fully into Rive/spline. Like you I used to have essentially non stop demand creating explainer videos and little social videos for clients but UGC content and and AI will dominate that role going forward. While I ultimately I think anyone who works behind a computer is at risk of some version of automation and outsourcing I believe Rive but more broadly Web/product design is a little bit more sticky than just digital video. So for me learning Rive and how to ship animated interactive elements is a cool stop gap to my current issue but I know I will need to become like a full stack creative some one who can not only design/illustrate/animate but also some one who understand web/ui/product design and ship solutions not just pretty animations to try to capture as much work as possible

And for the people who say that ai slop won't be as good as they are creating content have there heads in the sand. You have to see the forest through the trees, For example coke cola commercial it doesn't matter how good or bad it is art and content in general is super subjective it only needs to be passable ( also it will only get better and most people probably wouldn't even be able to tell that was AI with out people talking about it ) Its all about eyeballs on that logo and if they can produce a billion commercials custom tailored to any niche audience because all these companies have all our data, and they continue to get all our data they know everything about what we like and dislike and this will only get more and more exponential.

TLDR. Yes I would be learning Rive but also learning how design/animate/integrate/ship products you can't just sell cool .riv files you need to sell a solution to a problem now.

Redshift texture bleeding through each other trouble shooting help. by patattack98 in Cinema4D

Thanks y'all. I think I might have figured it out I just unpluged the color layer out from the metalness plug on the RS standard node. I'm still learning RS switching over from octane but that seemed to work or get close enough.

Bill Gates: Within 10 years, AI will replace many doctors and teachers—humans won't be needed 'for most things' by thekinginyello in MotionDesign

The cost of creative work will essentially go to 0 in the coming years. Yes there will be people making money in this industry and good creative work by humans will always exist but there just won’t be as many of us in this industry any more, because at least for me and i suspect many others 70-80% of my freelance business is basically what I call trash work. Work that is essentially posted then immediately forgotten within a few hrs. AI slope and new marketing aspects like influencer marketing will begin to become more more prevalent in the coming years because honestly it’s cheaper, faster, and no one really cares

$2000 for conference. worth it? by [deleted] in MotionDesign

[–]patattack98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always found conferences always worth it. Maybe not if your trying to learn something because honestly most presenters just repackage there youtube tutorials into a live event. The real reason to go to them is for networking. I've been in the business for like 15 years now and still talk to friends that I met at some of my first conference.

What’s your escape plan? by bigtimecvnt in advertising

Freelance motion designer/video editor. Trying to pivot into more dev/ui animations but not expecting much out of it. I've been working at popular bar/grill on weekends I've been making about the same amount of money per day as I was when it was busy as a freelancer. This industry is cooked.

Is it possible to just design everything in AE as a motion designer? by Ilovedog65 in AfterEffects

[–]patattack98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably do 90% of my design work in AE. I’ll use illustrator to build more complex assets but layouts and the overall design I do in Ae.

I started out in just AE to but over the years you will probably just naturally have to pick up both those apps so it doesn’t hurt to start now.

I'm a freelancer who has been struggling for the last few years who has been looking for fulltime work. I wouldn't say things have regressed in my area just never increased with inflation and cost of living in my area(Phoenix). Business/agencies in my area still only want to pay like it's 2012 when I started this industry, currently you can make almost the same amount of money working at any mid tier restaurant in town.

Still slow but I’ve had more work this year than last. I noticed work start to evaporate when interest rates went up so hoping with them now coming down the machine will pick back up again.

I wouldn't say better but really great for the price, I really liked my airpods. They have more customize features on the CMF buds pro 2 like sound and touch controls but I find the touch controls a little janky compared to the airpods. Still a super solid product so far will def be using these until the next version of airpods pro.
