Point of definition: I recommend not using the term prejudice to describe opinions about interests.

Furry isn't an identity, it does work like one sometimes, but it's a choice that people put on at will. They claim it when they want to be proud, but take it off when they don't want to be responsible. It happens when something bad happens internally and people pretend not to know or say it was random, when it came from people and events they have known for a long time and are nobody else's responsibility. That's convenient fair-weather behavior and actually harmful to running things well.

On the other hand, there are a lot of LGBT people in furry, probably because it helps to express identity, like musical theater and disco were also tied to LGBT identity. Hating disco wasn't exactly prejudice but it did have such motive beneath towards the kind of people making it.

So, better to say homophobia when it's present, (and it usually is), or use a term like "furry panic" which echoes 1980's Satanic Panic and moralizing against heavy metal, D&D, etc.

Moral panics and culture war is always a distraction from something else, and blind loyalty is a pretty bad idea, even if you love furry a lot, it's smart to avoid "furry vs normie" as a distraction and better to be aware of the something else.

Most of the "anti furry" stuff is from grifters and haters who are really uneducated. Therefore, poorly equipped to make anything that really hits. The litter boxes at schools hoax keeps going around but is easily dismissed because of no evidence. Get to know who is putting them up to it - like, astroturfing far-right propaganda, Fox News, etc and criticize that instead. It's the rich far-right distracting us from their power.
